I seen one and thinking of picking it up not sure what year it was though.
also curious how are the vintage Gillette adjustable razor & the fat boys, are they the same type razor or are they 2 different types of razors from Gillette ?
whats your favorite year & model vintage Gillette razor that works best for you ?

They are different. Some folks love them, some folks love the modern stuff. In either case, they all beat a cartridge razor :)

I have a '67 Slim Adjustable. The heads between the slims and fatties are different but they are very similar.

I have a blue tip, flair tip, NEW, 'Old Style' pre-war fat handle tech, and a 40s style super speed. The latter is my favorite.

I have nine (I think) vintage Gillettes, my current favorite is a 1956 red tip. Just about any of them should be a fine razor for you. The adjustables are also nice. What was it you were looking at?

The WW1 and before '04's are even better.

I think it was a super speed flare tip, i did not see a manufacturing date on the razor.

Check under the head, the part where the handle meets the bottom of the head. There will be a letter and a number on either side. The letter corresponds to the year of manufacture and the number to the quarter. Either way the flare tips were made between 54 and 66 or so. I like mine, it's a nice shaver.

Red tip for the super speed. IMO the super adjustable (black beauty) is a really nice razor.

They are terrible, and not good for anybody.
I only have three or four. (dozen)

I've only shaved with a SS two or three times (a week for the past year)

Lord they look terrible too. Just look at this old A4 (1955)

    Ugly, don't you think?

I'm one who loves the modern stuff. I've got a 51 Black Tip SS and a 62 SS, and I like owning them but I probably will never make another vintage purchase. I may even sell one of them one day. Maybe both. Who knows? I can appreciate the vintage but I prefer the modern. And they all beat cartridges, that's a given!

blanka I will not eat my shaving products. Promise.

My main razor is a 1948-49 (no date code) SS. Love it!

I have a '40s style, 1953 Super Speed and a 1954 Flair Tip SS. I also have a modern EJ89. The Flair Tip is my favorite. I like the lightness and angle of the SS razors. The EJ89 seems heavy and more angle critical to me. The DE89 weight appeals to others, so give an SS a shot and see if YOU like them. They are available inexpensively and do not have to be pretty to work quite well.

The superspeeds are great little razors. I have three of them and the 40's superspeed (no date code) is my favorite of the lot.

They are excellent shavers, mild and comfortable to hold. Great for navigating the contours of your face. I also really like the Gillette 'new' short and long comb razors.

Well, I haven't found a bad Super Speed yet. I am partial to my '47 because it is my birth year razor, but I like them all.

I have a 1940's Super Speed that I like well. I have a few others...Flair tip, TV Special etc, but my all time favorite is my '62 Slim Adjustable.

Hey, I've got a '62 Slim as well. I like it a lot, too. It does a great job shaving, and it is adjustable. I'd say a Slim is a must have.

Edit: I haven't been able to snag a fat boy yet. They are just too expensive. It remains on my wish list, but I have resigned myself to the fact that I may have to wait until I find one in the wild that I can afford. I am pretty satisfied with my vintage collection for now.

  20. They're great razors and I doubt you'd be dissappointed. I have one (and a few other vintage brands) along with a Modern Merkur Futur and each gives a different feel to the shave. Don't use them much though since I love my straights ;)
