Looking for a decent DE for under $15

I'm attempting to get my brother-in-law to convert from carts to DE (he currently uses a bar of bath soap on his face with a Mach 3). I have an old brush, a travel container with some VDH soap and a home-made blade sampler from some of my favorite blades to give him, leaving only the razor for him to buy. (I would lend him one of mine but he lives in Texas and I'm in Kansas) He's interested, but doesn't want to spend more than $15-$18 (shipping included in that amount) in case it isn't for him.

My question is, what would you all recommend as a good razor for a newbie for less than $15? I really wanted to send a link to the Utopia (seeing as it's gotten lots of rave reviews recently) but it's currently sold out everywhere.

    Any others?

You should be able to find a good user Tech for around $15. It's a great newbie razor on top of it all.

Once upon a time, I would have said the Feather Portable, but those days are long gone.

Aside from the options already mentioned, you can check out the Lord offerings. They have a tech clone and a standard (merkur type) as well. Both are inexpensive and work well.

Aye. The FP is one razor that I will not let go of. A mild shaver, but was a bargain at the time, less than $10.

The Krona is a nice TTO option.

blanka I will not eat my shaving products. Promise.

Would you believe, I used to own two full boxes of Feather Portables??? Now I only have my one for personal use. I gave most of them away as gifts back then, lol.

Wow. I paid for one, they just sent me an email saying they were out of stock. And refunded me. I'm opening a claim.

Rimei are dirt cheap and are great first tie razors, very forgiving, and +1 on the Jaws of course

    +1 for a Maggard.

My M1 Maggard does an excellent job. Brad does have some trouble keeping them in stock though.

Some sellers do this on Amazon to keep the listing open after they sell out but jack the price so high nobody will buy and delete the listing.

This was an e-Bay BIN that repriced. Amazon moved the product on their site to sold out and do not know when more will be in.

I see now. Did not look first. However, I still maintain my earlier observation.

e-Bay is far worse about situations such as this than Amazon is in general since e-Bay rarely polices such stuff.
