How long would you say SE blades last?

I have a SE blade box in my drawer that has lasted for years. Years, I tell ya! ;)

Just GEM SE blades or injector blades too?

I get about 4 good shaves out of them personally.

    Carbon steel-1
Stainless- I have no idea. I got 8 shaves out of them the same with injectors but I need to re-evaluate that because I am on my 12th shave on the same injector blade and it is still sharp and smooth. I will tell you in a month. Most do get about 8 shaves though some get up to 20 shaves out of them.

I generally get 3-4 with the Blue Star and Treet blades, a few more with the stainless GEM blades.

Well, I'm glad to hear this! I stretched a couple to 5 shaves, but am still rather new to the SE side of things (GEM only, so far). I haven't decided if I just need to improve my SE technique or what! I have been rotating my SEs in with my DEs. I have more DEs, so maybe my SE skills atrophy a little between SE shaves.

Anyhoo, when I got only 3 good shaves out of my new-to-me ASR 1914, I was wondering if it was me, the razor, or the blade. Reading that you are good for 3 or 4 really encourages me, Tom. I thought "the standard" was 5+. I don't know how anyone can get to 20!

I have wondered if my beard is tougher on razors than a lot of folks'. I have also been contemplating a 3-shaves-per-blade rule for my DE blades. I'll have to focus on SEs for a period to really find out, I guess.

NOTE: The up side of 3-and-done is you cycle through blades a little faster, which means you get to try a greater variety of blades (...well... for DEs, anyway).

Many guys get well over 5 shaves with the stainless blades, I just use them so rarely because I much prefer the carbon steel versions and use them so much more often. Once I finish up the GEM stainless blades I have I doubt I'll ever buy any more.

I know I've read the answer here, but ask you to forgive my laziness: new carbon? If new, what brands and what is your source?

(I've got a NOS Treet carbon blade that came with my 1914. Haven't decided to use it. Haven't thrown it out. )

New, I can get them locally at a couple drug stores. There are almost always sellers on eBay that sell the Treet and GEM Blue Star blades for very good prices, I got 120 Treets a while back that came out to around $.15 a blade at the recommendation of a member from a different forum.

If you have a Family Drug in your area they carry Blue Stars for $4.99 for 10, at least the last time I picked up a couple.
