Performance is top-tier in my opinion. I like the scent but I over-used it for a couple of weejs straight and now I can't bring myself to use it....
The first time in smelled Tabac I tried to conjure up an image of what the smell reminded me off, all I got was a wet dog covered in vomit, so at first I wasn't a big fan of the scent, but it has grown on me, and I can live with it now. What I really like about tabac is it is easy to lather, nice to use and afterwards it leaves my skin feeling soft, so it is a soap I really enjoy using...now.
I'd get a stick to try. It can be a polarizing scent but personally I find it absolutely awesome except something makes my skin red so I can't use it like my grandfather did
I haven't smelled the real thing but the tabac-type scent from the TSD shop smells like talcum powder to me.
That is how I was with Speick (Cream) and PdP. I favored PdP a little more though, but both gave me irritation. I started to break out in in something similar to hives with Speick. PdP just made me itch.
Please don't let me put you off. You might love the scent. I think the scent is OK now. Plus when I first got it and didn't like the smell I still looked forward to using Tabac because it just felt so good. I should confess that I am probably not the best to judge smells. The wife complains that I can never smell when our youngest needs her nappy changed, so don't take my word for it, one mans wet dog covered in vomit is another mans favourite scent
Slow Joe, that's a trick. "Honey, I can't smell it". Hence she changes it :-D As for Tabac. It smells a bit old mandish to me. It reminds me of my late grandfather. I'm not sure I'd dig it if it weren't for him. But my associations makes me love it.
I have to use my Tabac stick again soon before I end up giving it away to Dad or trashing it. I love it so much.
It's a Pfaltzgraff soup mug. Made in Pennsylvania, USA some 30-40 years ago. I find it very comfortable to hold, even when wet, and just the right diameter and depth for making lather. They appear on Ebay now and then, and usually sell at a reasonable price. About a year ago I was able to get a pair for $11.00. The only drawback to them is that they are square bottomed instead of round. While I have personally found this not a bother at all, others have commented that square bottomed cups/mugs/bowls are troublesome.
My Tabac stick has lasted me 5 years now. Admittedly, i've only used it once or twice in that time. You know in old movies, when someone would sneak up on an unsuspecting victim from behind and hold a chloroform soaked rag over their mouth and nose until they pass out? When i smell Tabac, i feel just like the person getting the chloroform treatment haha! It's not a bad smell as such, i like it way better than say clubman which gives me a vomit vibe, it's just to much at once for my nose. I found an old bottle of Rive Gauche from YSL, and i react to that in the same way. IMO It's a way too heavy and almost sweet scent
Tabac is one of those quality shave products that tends to receive unanimous acclaim from its users for the quality lather produced—despite the disagreement over the Tabac scent.
And it is well deserved acclaim. I just don't think it's safe to shave with something that makes my eye water
Well, this definitely proves how subjective scent is... to me, TABAC is one of the most masculine scents of them all... I love it!!
