I've seen various write ups on AoS products around the board. In general, the responses seem to be "great products but very overpriced". I received a gift set of AoS for my birthday, from my loving but uninformed wife, so I decided to make it a complete AoS event yesterday to celebrate FD. The gift set included a Pre Shave Oil, a brush ( the only product I did use as it hasn't been conditioned - used my old boar instead), shaving cream and post shave balm. The process was the same as usual (except the use of a pre shave oil, which I've never used) Neutragena facial scrub in the shower followed by a hot water shave. The razor combo was a Red Tip with a Sword for the blade (third use - seemed the perfect sharpness). The results - best shave I can remember having. I'm not one to jump to conclusions and state that it was all due to the AoS, but it was a perfect combo of something. Probably a marriage of interest in trying new products, taking plenty of time (day off), not skimping on the prep, and quality products. Anyway, a great shave. Was it an overpriced shave - probably, but a couple more shaves like that and I'll consider it worth every penny. BTW - Happy Father's Day to all my paternal wingmen out there. Thanks for what you've done in your kids' lives. Take a sec to realize how important you are and enjoy every minute of the privelege.
Made me a little misty. (My sons broke out the ole PS2 yesterday and we played several hours of Battlefront 2, just like we used to many years ago. Their idea of a fun time with dad. It prompted several reminisces. <sniff-sniff - cue Cat's In The Cradle...>)
Happy Belated Father's Day. I went to a brick & mortar AoS store last week for the first time. Crazy expensive but really quality stuff. I love their pre-shave oil - VERY thick. I've heard it's easy to replicate at home on the cheap, so that's one of my next projects. What did you think of the scents for the cream & balm? I really liked what they had in the store - especially the sandalwood. Glad you enjoyed your shave!
As for the scents....my set is Sandalwood. When you open them up and put your nose in them they smell pretty good. Seem to me to be a bit different from other "sandalwood" scents I've smelled, but what do I know? I couldn't point to a Sandalwood tree if I was sitting on it. Upon application (both lather and post shave balm) both were much more muted. Smelled good to me and wasn't over powering. Works for me...after all I'd hate for anything to dilute my Pinaud.
AOS Lavender balm and cream are heavenly to this wet shaver. I never did the math but they last a bunch of time.
I use the sandalwood shave oil, shave soap and aftershave balm very pricey, however just tried arko and it is every bit as good as aos just with out the scent.enjoy the aos dude.
It really is easy. See the tutorial section here. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/how-to-make-your-own-pre-shave-oil.31132/
