If you can't go against the grain, what about going across the grain?

    Also:
Wash your face well (but gently) with a good moisturizing soap before shaving.
When you apply lather, do so for at least 1 full minute and work it in well.
Make certain you are paying sufficient attention to the problem areas on your neck.

Try stretching the skin in a different way than you normally do. If you usually just tip your chin up to make
the neck taught, try instead putting your non-razor hand on your chest just below your neck and pull down.
Remember, you can over-do the stretching too. Try different degrees of tension.

Shave your neck last in each pass. This will give the soap/crème time to work.

Remember, no pressure on the razor. Press just enough to hold the blade flat against the skin.
Slow down when you get close to a problem area. Short strokes at half the normal speed (or less) will often help,
and pay very close attention to the angle at which you hold the razor. If the problem areas are near the base of
your neck, you may need to adjust your hold slightly in order to maintain proper angle on the razor.

Rinse your razor often, especially if you apply a thick, creamy lather. If the razor is clogged, you are much more likely to have trouble.
