I just discovered this forum and joined last week. I have been wet shaving for well over a year now and seem to have my technique down good. I use a Merkur 34C that I think is a pretty good razor. Reading on this forum reminded me that one of the fun things about wet shaving is experimenting. Every since I began I have been using Merkur blades, which I have no real gripe against. It was time to order blades again and I decided from reading on here to try the Gillette Silver Blues. WOW!!!!! These things are the cat's meow. Very sharp and smooth. Shaved clean as a baby's bottom in 2 passes.

I guess you did have a nice shave if coming from Merkur blades, never heard much bad about their razors, never much good about their blades

I still consider myself very new at wet shaving, and when I was using the Merkur blades, I hadn't experimented with others. Now that the bug is refreshed, I will do experiment as money permits.

I don't mind the Merkur blades, but much prefer the Gillette Silver Blues or Perma-Sharp Supers.

    try persona labs
they are on the sharper side of the spectrum
    made in the USA
not overly expensive 18 bucks for a hundred after shipping
they last forever ymmv, but most say they get a lot of shaves from each blade
only down side I have found with them is they set the bar pretty high. most of the others I have tried pailed in comparison to them.

I'll try the person labs next time I'm ordering. I love a good shave. I want near perfection and will keep experimenting until I find it!!

I was really debating between the Gillettes and the Feather blades and chose the Gillette. Are the Feather blades sharper????

Welcome to the Den. I've been DE shaving for 2 months now and started with A Merkur 34c HD also. That is a great razor IMO. It came with 1 Merkur blade so that is what I started with. I also got some Wilkinson blades which I liked much better. Feathers are my go to blade in my Merkur now. The best shave I ever had. They are by most known as the sharpest blade you can get. Everyone has their go to setup, so strap in and enjoy the ride.:transport016:

    Welcome!

Yeah... Silver Blues are on my "get this" list, too. Stupid finite resources!

I slapped together a non-scientific histogram of some recent TSDers stated preferences >here<. I thought it was kinda interesting.

GSB's were my first "100 Blade Purchase", along with the Personna Med Preps. The GSB's can be had for $19/100 shipped currently.
