On a whim, went to an estate sale near my home today. It wasn't much of a sale, just in a single garage, mostly kitchen utensils and dishes. There was nobody around so I looked and noticed an old bottle of Old Spice, nothing else. So I started to leave. Just then a guy came out and said, "Find anything you like?" I said "No, thanks." He said, "Are you looking for anything in particular?" I thought that was a strange question given the garage was filled mostly with junk. So, I said, "I'm usually looking for shaving stuff, like razors." His eyes lit up and he said, "I just threw out my dads old shaving stuff! I didn't think anybody would want any of that. I threw out a couple razors, one of them has numbers on it." Then he said to wait because he thought he knew where the "stuff" was in the trash. After a bit, he called for me to come in the house and laid out what he had found. (1) An old, fairly worn Old Spice shaving mug. (2) A completely plastic Schick "disposable" razor, never used. (3) An old Ever-ready shaving brush. (4) A VERY tarnished 1938-45 Fat Handle Tech covered with soap scum and green "stuff" and, finally, (5) A soap scum covered 1965 Slim! I said "How much would you like for them?" He said $5 for the lot! I've cleaned up the Slim and, as you can see, it's nearly MINT! It works perfectly, the numbers are black, the adjuster works smoothly, and there's not a mark or scratch on it! Take a look...

I gotta do this more often!

Thx guys. The pics don't do it justice. It's really almost mint. My first try was a fat handle gold tech that's still mostly gold. Nice little shaver. Guess I've been lucky.

Half the fun is the hunt and the cleaning. The actual use is a reward for your endavour. I find it rewarding when you find what you have been looking for.

Imagine how many great razors are in your local landfill because there was no one like you to save them.

I goes to show you there are people out there that are not out to rip people off with obscene prices.

The fact of the matter is, no one is forced to buy anything against their wishes and people voluntarily PAY what they will for what they WANT—regardless of how obscene the prices may seem to others.
Now if people charge exorbitantly and don't deliver what is promised, then THAT certainly qualifies as a rip off. But if Joe Schmoe puts his old Fat Boy up on ebay—the one he picked up for $5 at a garage sale—and puts it up for auction with an asking price of $75— and it winds up selling for $120—is he ripping people off or charging an 'obscene price'? The market drives the prices, and with auctions, the sellers will attempt to capitalize on the demand.
The fall out from this situation is many antique stores, garage and estate sales will look to ebay for relative pricing—and the competitive dynamic of auctions will no doubt drive prices artificially northward.

Good point kevin. People need to realize that these insane online Prices whether Etsy or eBay, will really hurt the wet shaving community. If an Antique store owner has the same razor that is going for 120 bux on eBay it only natural they would ask the same. Some other owners are not so bad, One place I went to sold a Aristocrat for 30 bux. It is just to bad I was late and didn't happen to buy it myself.
