7/5/14 SoTD Prep: warm wash with Stirling Barbershop bath bar Lather: Tiki Set Sail vegan Brush: Vie-Long 13061M Razor: Gillette New Blade: Cristal (2) Post: Cold water rinse and Captain's Choice Lime Went of a good face lather after several weeks of scuttle lathering. Temps already in the 90's by 8:00 a.m. and will only get warmer today. No warm lather! Easy 3 passes with a little more deliberate grain pattern following to get first pass WTG - jawline and neck grow crazy ways and the resulting shave seems to be much smoother. Have a wonderful weekend all.

SATURDAY Another straight razor where I reset the bevel using the same method (or process) as my previous successful honings. The edge on the Böker wasn't horrible, but I did notice under the loupe it was inconsistent (very weak in the the toe and heel). So last night, I ran it through my series of sharpening stones. Post-honing and testing on my arms, I had arm hairs 'popping off' all across the blade… Next was 50 linen/75 leather strokes on the strop & it was ready to go for this morning. Super smooth shave this morning with the 'new' Böker and the wonderful Cade soap (applied generously with the ridiculously small Simpson). Have a great weekend, everyone!

The fougére scent can be polarizing—some love it; others despise it. I happen to enjoy it, but I also enjoy the 'basic' MdC scent as well—which is milder, but similar. The Valobra fougére is more 'intense.'
Saturn's Day: Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Deep Cleaning Gentle Scrub Brush: Beeline Boar Cream: Speick Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum (3) Passes: WTG, XTG (5, 6) Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Speick AS Splash Well, I managed to break the One-X spell for the day, and reached for the Speick. This time it really was a deliberate choice on my part to skip the preshave balm, as I wanted to try face-lathering the Speick and didn't relish the idea of smearing the cream on top of the balm. The resulting lather was certainly nice, but not as good as what I typically get from bowl lathering the Speick. Two passes did provide a DFS, though.
I don't really like P.160. I have other soaps that perform better. This is too strong in the scent department. It's average in the slickness department and it's alright in the cushion department. This is my third use with the ER 1924. I think I'm sold on it. I can a DFS with one pass from this razor. I am getting used to the angle and I am starting to get a feel for how this razor works. After No Buy July, I'm going to make other forays into the SE world.
