Hrm, never thought of that. I just tighten it normally, not hard, not light.

That is a good looking razor.

Star razors of that configuration were in production around at least 10 year because the British version was sold under the Personna brand name.

The Star is more aggressive than Techs but less aggressive than Open Combs.

    Here are three of mine.

So do these really have a Zamac top plate?

I am not going to file a notch out of mine to check, but my inexpert eye sees this as a stamped or even extruded part. It could even be machined, but its edges are a little sharp to be a cast part. I don't see someone taking the cheap Zamak route and then adding cost by machining afterwards. It doesn't make sense.

I've never found a Star in perfect shape. Of the 3 or 4 Stars I've seen over the years they always had plate loss and the top caps were Zamak & base plate were brass. Maybe they switched to or from brass top caps at some point? My guess is it was cast because of the blade alignment posts have keys on them and it would been fairly expensive to machine.
Zamak or not they are well made razors. I'd love to find a aluminum handled one once.

Unfortunately, mine does not appear to have any plate-loss at all, so it's still in the dark whether it has zamac or not.

If zamac... it certainly hasn't withered like doomsday posts will tell about that material :)

A very nice looking razor. And evidently very effective too...

Excellent point! I was guessing that the posts were press fit. However, I don't see the telltale "dots" on the cap that can sometimes mark the press fit. Hmm... maybe it was cast.

Either way, I think I'll be using mine tomorrow. I've wanted to put a Feather blade in it for some time now. Tomorrow it is!

Loaded that Feather this morning. Yep, that is one fine BBS shave.

I noticed that it was a little bit "burny" afterwards, but attribute that to two things:
    1) I was somewhat distracted, mentally starting my work day before finishing my shave - How could I? <p-tooey - spit in disgust!>
    2) I slacked off on the water for an otherwise pretty thirsty soap, creating a slightly more thick than slick lather - increased drag

I gotta keep my head in the game! I'll need to run that Feather s few time before making a decision.

As poor as I performed this morning, the Star came through like a champ. I think I rank it just behind the Krona, my current king of the mild DEs.

(I had two Stars, but PIFed one to a potential convert.)
