    Friday 07/25/14

    Prep: Gaia face scrub
    Oil: Shave Secret
Brush: 20mm Whipped dog set deep
    Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery
Razor:Above the jawline - Slim adjustable
    Below the jawline - Straight
    Blade: voskhod
    soap: French
    Post: alum sprayed on
Witch Hazel: Generic with rose oil

Today I again attempted to shave my cheeks with a straight and was unable to get the correct angle or was holding the razor incorrectly, or the not stretching my skin enough, or something and was not successful. I ended up only using the straight on my neck, at which I am very successful. So, I used the slim above the jawline again today. I am also fast coming to the conclusion that straights are not for me. They are a lot of work. You have to strop every time you use it. It takes much longer (for me) to shave with a straight as opposed to a DE. So, I will put away the straight for a while and see if I pick it up again.

My french soap mix is performing beyond what I had hoped to see. I have been using it exclusively for the past few days. It has all the qualities I was looking for and have been unable to find in a single soap/croap/cream.

    Shave of the day

Pre- Hot shower + homemade PSO

    Soap/cream- Proraso green

    Brush- Plisson synthetic

    Razor- Mühle R89

    Blade- Astra SP(2)

Post- Cold water rinse and Nivea ASB with 2 drops homemade menthol additive.

Nice shave today. I tried getting my chin a bit smoother than usual but I knew when to stop to avoid razor burn and bumps. Used proraso green because it's a hot day and added some menthol to the finish. It's way better to shave consecutive days. Easier and takes less time too.

But I'm not getting as close as I want. It kind of sucks!

Here's my SOD for most days. The Badger PSO is from Whole Foods, smells pretty good, seems to work fine, I think it's mostly olive oil, but was cheaper than making my own. I got that cool bowl for my soap at a thrift store for $3 - looks like someone's high school or college ceramics project. The Clinique was originally given to me as a gift and now I'm on my second bottle. It's $20 but will last over a year. Still diggin the Merkur 180 too and the Merkur Super Platinum blades.

    Warm shower
    plain ole Ivory
    Hot water rinse/dry
    PSO
    Hot water slap
face lather - Col. Conk's Bay Rum soap
    With, cross, against
    rinse
    witch hazel (when needed)
    PSL

I think it's great. But I'm biased. I could send you some links to unbiased reviews if you would like.

A great Friday shave with the Imperial. I don't use this razor as much as I should. It isn't a very impressive looking razor; small and plain vanilla in appearance but, an outstanding performer all around. :happy088:

First shave with this controversial razor. Amazingly it took a wonderful edge and was a great shave. Big step in my restoration/honing learning curve with this one. Took lots of dremel work to the shoulders and I sanded it completely from 100 grit up to 2500.
