First Shave with Dorco: Not Bad

I had gotten a couple of Dorcos in a pif, then I bought the MicroTouch One and got 12 with that, but I had not tried one since I had heard how bad/dull/whatever they were.

Well, today, I pulled out my '47 Super Speed and put a Dorco ST300 Platinum blade in it. It was an OK shave. I had used a Shark Super Chrome in the MicroTouch One when I used it for a week last month. The MT One was an OK razor and got the job done with the Shark. I was affraid to use the Dorco in it though. I usually change blades after 5-7 shaves, so we will see how Dorco holds up. If it starts to pull, I will replace it. I've got lots of blades to choose from, and now I have 13 Dorcos to add to that list.

I didn't have good results with the 301. What's the difference?

I like Dorcos. Always have. Could happily shave with them the rest of my days, if I needed to. They never give me any problems, play well with all my razors, they're sharp enough for my beard, they're cheap, and (barring new problems at the 51st parallel) they're readily available.

Nothing against guys honestly giving a blade a chance but just not getting good results - that's how I am with Derby and Voshkod...Vokshod...whatever. But some of grief cast at Dorcos is, I suspect, just snobbery and pretentiousness and is to be ignored (that is NOT aimed at anyone on TSD, btw).

    That's a sharp looking '47 you're driving, btw.

I have read that the 301s have PTFE coating. That is Teflon or something like it. It is supposed to make them shave smoother. I have two of those I got in a pif. We'll see how these work out for me. YMMV as usual.

I tried the 301s in my weber and got a wonderful shave. However I did not like the fact that they stained the interior of the razor head. I was able to remove the stains though but I am wary of using them again.

It's unfortunate, but sometimes many of us tend to cave in to the downward pressure
some blades (or soap, brushes, etc...) get. I think this is often a mistake.
I almost threw out a batch of Derby Extras several months back, agreeing with the common
opinion that they were pretty rough. I'm glad I gave them another try in a totally different
razor. (Fatip) They really work well in that whisker whacker!

Best wishes and Happy Shaving with the Dorco blades Jayaruh! :bounce017:

The odd thing is, I like Dorco cartridges a lot. I had an amazing shave from the 2 blade I got from Dollar Shave Club. Dorco DE's though, nope. They tug and bite. I'm glad other people like them, I figured people had to. I always PIF the ones I get for free, so I'm glad you guys like them.

I'm using a Dorco in my razor right now, it's perfectly acceptable. Not my favorite but I'll use them and won't turn them away, although I doubt I would buy them on their own.

I may have to give em another go from DG.

I have to agree on this as I have tried the St-300's several times, and ended up with horrible razor-burn after each shave. It is of course a YMMV deal, but I just get a bad shave no matter what razor I use them in.

Tried both 300 and 301 and got terrible shaves from both. Lots of little bites no matter what I tried. It amazing that an awful blade for me can be the perfect match for someone else.

I have had good experiences with Dorco blades. They are definitely part of my rotation but not my all-time favorite. Of course, YMMV.

Shave number two down and with good results. Three more good shaves will make Dorcos a keeper for me. We shall see.

I love the ST301s. They shave just as smooth to me as the Astra SP that is my go to. I have a few of the ST300s. They are not as smooth, and can cause a bit of irritation if I'm not careful, but I shave with them fairly regularly and usually don't have a problem. But when the stock of the 300s is gone I won't be getting any more. There are too many blades out there that work better for me, including their sisters the 301s, that I'd much rather spend the money on a better blade for me.
But if you like them don't let anyone dissuade you from buying and using them. YMMV is the biggest common denominator in the wetshaving world. My "holy grail" might be your worst nightmare. It's all in what you like.

That sounds very reasonable to me. I just had my third shave with the ST300, and it was a good one: no irritation, comfortable, smooth. I did a blade inventory the other day and I have 172 blades to choose from. It will be a while before I buy any blades, but so far I have not written these off.

Fourth shave with the Dorco ST300 today, and it looks like it will make it through the fifth shave OK. It looks like the Dorcos may be keepers for me. They are working great in my '47 Super Speed.

how can you tell which variant your dorco blades are? mine are generic grocery store brand, no model numbers or anything.

If it says made in South Korea, and that they are coated, they are the ST 301s.

OK, today I had my fifth shave with the Dorco ST300 blade. It was a good shave, and I have no complaints. The Dorco has passed my minimalist test for a good blade. I think I may go for six and then change. I have been having really good shaves with the '47 Super Speed and Dorco combo.

This is what makes a large blade sampler pack so "IMPORTANT" to buy and keep stashed IMO. For me Dorco as well as Derby suck, a friend of mine however loves Dorco and another loves Derby as do many shavers.. Blades and blade/safetyrazor combo's are definitely a YMMV kind of thing. The only thing important about them is how they work for "YOU" not where they are made, who makes them or who uses/likes what. The only way to "POSITIVELY" know if something will really works for you unfortunately/fortunately is to try it.
