Gave shaving foam a try...

Some how a foam gave me the best shave of my life. After using creams and soaps for a while a FOAM did the best job. No pulling or tugging against the grain and absolutely zero irritation. When I put my after shave on it didn't even burn. I did some research and it turns out foam has a lot of pre shave oils in it which is why it helps the blade to glide easily if you use a nice amount.

I used prorasso green foam with the brush and a bowl and it was really good. Surprisingly the foam lathered very nicely and I got that nice even thick coat for each pass.

I feel like I may be shuned for this post :/

:happy102: No shunning here, you need to use whatever works for you, even foam....:)

Speak for yourself! I'm for the shunning. ;)

But, as someone once said, "It's your shave. Enjoy it your way." (tm)

To be honest, some foams are actually good to use. Barbasol, Proraso and the Nivea foams come to mind, I have no problems using them at all.

There is nothing wrong with some foams, especially the better foams that have been listed in this thread. Likewise, there is not anything necessarily wrong with some cartridge razors. I like the Atra Plus and Mach3 (they shave very well with shaving soaps and creams). The only problem I have with the Mach3 is the price of the dang carts! I still use cartridge razor when I'm in a real hurry and don't have time to use a DE or a straight (like today, I used a Mach3 with lather from Pre de Provence soap and got a great shave).

Like so much else, it's a YMMV thing.

Since foams are fine to use why are they not discussed we use the razors from the the same time period when the foam first came out...just saying....shaving old school just takes us back to a period in time when things were a little slower moving when a person had time to enjoy a shave, more family time a good cup of coffee that didn't come from starbucks. Right now we have more choices of soaps, creams, brushes etc. some of those soaps and creams seems to give us pleasure aromatherapy comes to mind to me that is the pay off for old school shaving foam is just another piece in the puzzle to a slower time in life a time to smell the roses.

I got good results from Proraso and Barbasol. Neither are enjoyable, but work well.

I've used gillette foamy and prorasso green.

Gillette foamy had a very distinct smell that is not "fresh" or anything else I have smelt. But I like it haha

I wanna try Speick foam. It's a great soap, and I'm curious how the foam would be.

Canned shaving cream or "foam" dates all the way back to shortly after the end of WWII, in my book that makes it just as "old school" as a lot of the other gear that's discussed here. Burma Shave was advertising their brushless creams as being the modern way to shave back in the 20's.

People back in the good old days complained just as much about their fast paced life and longed for the good old days when everything was slower and simpler, just as people do today. Fifty years from now people will be looking back at this time as the good old days when daily life was slower and simpler and people had time to enjoy daily life more.

Just watch some of the old sitcoms from the 50's and 60's like The Andy Griffith Show and you'll see episodes where they complain about the fast paced modern world they are living in. The good old days simply never existed, and never will.

And , I just gotta ask, what is a foatarbucksms?
