I just got my order(Ozark MTN and Stirling Spice) from stirling and I got a free sample of his Lampasas soap. Is Lampasas a new scent he's testing? I dont see this one listed on his site. I hope he will make full size pucks for sale of this scent, its fantastic. It smells like ive been working with wood from a BBQ pit, very masculine scent.
I wonder how it compares to Texas on Fire? Lampasass is indeed a town in Texas. When I smelled Texas on Fire, i felt like I do when I smoke a brisket for 16 hours. It was just too strong for my taste. Im curious to hear your impression after you lather it up.
It is just an experiment Rod was doing. It is not in the line up and probably won't be. Here is my SOTD from Wednesday with it: Wednesday Prep: Hot Shower-Stirling Scots Pine Bath Soap Soap: Stirling Lampasas Razor: Gillette NEW Short Comb Blade: Viking’s Sword (2) Brush: oscar11 TGN 2-Band Finest-24mmx50mm Aftershave: Fine Platinum WTG-XTG-ATG (adjusted angles for my beard) I got to use a new Stirling soap today: Lampasas. It is a “You have to be a Texan” experiment Rod was playing with: Texas Sweetgrass, Cedarwood, Sage, and a tiny bit of BBQ Pit Smoke. Good smooth, close, nick free shave. I finished up with Fine Platinum. Bob
@Bobcat: Bob, i LOVE your brush. The handle is fantastic. The colour is so great...seems to be "smokey" grey or anything like that. Where do you bought it? Or was it custom made for you?
Thanks! It is one of my favorites. It is a custom by oscar11 with a 24mmx50mm TGN 2-Band Finest Knot (smoke grey transparent base w/ opaque black top-M7 style)
Thank you very much Bob. I think i have to interview him, to ask if he would be so kind, to create the same for me one day. Would you be fine with that?
I'm glad someone explained this. I kept reading it as Lamp-ass and wondered what the "h" that could be and wasn't so sure I wanted to know.
Well... Just had my first shave with this soap and my skin had a bad reaction to it from the start. After I applied the lather to my face I could feel it getting warm and as I took my first pass I felt irritation too. My face was red after my first pass. I was using my go to blade(personna labs) and my 1953 gillette tech, it was the second shave on the blade. I did a full 3 pass shave with my face feeling like it was on fire. There's something in this soap my skin just doesn't like. I've used stirling soap before so it can't be the base ingrediants as I've gotten superior shaves from my other stirling soap. I'm gonna try it again I a couple days and see if it happens again. It's a shame too since I love the woody smoky scent of this soap.
After I shave again in a couple days I'll email him if it happens again. I hope it doesn't happen again, I really like the scent.
...........once again, just an FYI this was just an experiment. It is not going to be sold as of now.
Hey guys..........none of this was directed at either of you. Rod just made up a batch of this for grins. I just wanted to make sure folks didn't get the idea that it was going to be available for sale.
I also was sent a sample of this soap and the scent is fantastic. It was my first Stirling order and this was the best scent in the bunch. A shame they won't release it. I found this thread after searching their website to order some more.
