I relofted this brush as I felt it was too short. It performed much better. Great shave today. Have a good one.

    Prep: Warm shower, Cetaphil Lotion
    Razor: Gem Junior
    Blade: CVS
    Lather: L'Occitane Cade Soap
Brush: Parker handle w/ TGN Synthetic Knot
    Post: Witch Hazel, Cetaphil Lotion
    Aftershave: Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve

I'm still learning how to properly use the Gem Jr. I'm doing fine everywhere except my top lip. I just can't find the right angle and I wind up dragging the blade across my skin. This, of course, causes irritation. I'll get it though. The rest of the shave is fantastic. I'm not sure I could get a smoother, closer shave.

I'm trying to figure out whether or not I like the Clubman Special Reserve. Sometimes I really like it, and other times not so much. It's definitely an old man smell.

    Have a great day!

  8. International Shave
Another good shave from the iKon Slant, if you can ignore the cut I got from I attention. This is bigger than a weeper, but not crazy big. I used a Gillette SE Yellow blade, to see if would be different than my usual Personna, and it was... During the shave, it felt very smooth and comfortable. Post shave, I still get tenderness that is common so far. I have to send this razor head back soon, and I have to go back to school on Monday, so I'm tempted to use my mild SC101 for a few days, or go back to my New so my face can rest.
I have not used Proraso Green Pre in a long time, I forgot how good it is. I like the menthol cool, and it seems to help the razor glide a bit. The splash is much better than I remember from the last time I used it. Nice scent, nice face feel. Tabac is always fantastic.

Prep: Proraso Green Crema Pre Barba (Italy)
    Soap: Tabac! (Germany)
    Brush: HIS XL (Asia)
    Razor: iKon Slant (Asia)
Blade: Gillette Sharp Edge Yellow (Russia)

  9. Friday 08/15/14

    Prep: Gaia face scrub
    Oil: Shave Secret
Brush: 20mm Whipped dog set deep
    Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery
    Razor: GEM SE
    Blade: Gem Blue Star
    soap: Valobra Fougere
    Post: alum sprayed on
    Witch Hazel: Generic unscented

Today I used some more of a sample of Volabra that I had received a while back. It is a very good soap. I ended up with 2.5 passes (2 passes and some touch-ups) for a very nice shave.
I think shaving the top lip is the only weakness of an SE. It takes a certain technique that I haven't mastered yet, either.
  10. I see what they've done here...:happy102:
I suppose the play on name works if one pronounces 'fougére' with a hard G.
It's actually pronounced more like the 'g' in 'bourgeois' = smoothing akin to: 'foosh-schair,'

  12. If it's tugging your lather is getting too dry and/or the razor edge needs touching up.

  15. Correct. I listened to pronunciations online until I got it. Then there is faux, as in faux frameback. My friend kept telling me it's pronounced "fox", but I learned it really is pronounced "foe".

    Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve AS

Didn't change much from Wednesday's shave. Decided to add tobacco and leather to the Special Reserve for a manly smelling Friday.
  19. That is a great little razor. I set mine on 5 and it works great for me. I love the way the handle feels, and the ease with which the razor maneuvers.
