As the Dark Lord of the Abominable Shave, I thought it would be interesting to crank it up a notch by using two products whose reputation has always exceeded my own experiences.
I am talking about the Merkur Progress razor and the Martin de Candre soap.
Mind you, I have never experienced anything negative about these two products, but I have also never understood what the hype is all about. I feel I have better performing soaps and razors than these two items.
That being said, I have also never quite mastered the art of using an adjustable properly. I have just dialed in the progress on the lower settings and never actually experimented much before.
The MdC soap has burned me from time to time and I have always felt the lather to be too thin for comfort.
Tonight was going to be different. I loaded my homemade brush, now christened
SithSpawn for a good 30 seconds before going to the bowl for further lathering. The brush called forth the dark side of the force and managed to whip up an abundance of thick, slick, protective and nourishing lather.
The razor on the other hand, proved to be something of a nuisance. At level two, it was quite the chatterbox. Loud, but also effective, just like an R2 unit. When dialed up to level 4 it became silent, but oh so smooth. I was unsure if it actually cut anything, but it probably did. So to test if more is indeed merrier, I cranked it up to level 5.
Big mistake, since it acted like a Padawan apprentice, crude and lacking in both style and form and left me feeling like I shaved with a lightsaber instead.
