After life long with an electric I've been using the MTO for a month now. After the first shave I was ready to take it back after several Knicks. I went to YouTube and found Mantic69's videos. Tip that helped the most was not breaking my wrist and finding this forum in the video comments. No more Knicks, great shaves. Only complaint about MTO for me is I seem to have to work in the same area little more to get a really smooth shave compared to thetutorial videos. I would disagree with those who say MTO is bad for traditional wet shaving. It has me hooked. I just purchased a Gillette slim on eBay and plan a modern one down the road. At the end of the day MTO only set me back $20.
I understand that the MTO is essentially the same as the Weishi. Picked up a Weishi for my 84 yr old dad on Fathers Day - he loves it. Not a Gillette but pretty nice quality too
What I think is sad and pathetic is that there are so many people kind of hero worshipping this Rick dude from Pawn Stars. They kind of act like they know him and feel personally betrayed by him, it is kind of weird reading these reviews how many people care enough about Rick to be so upset with him. Nothing against the guy, but I never realised he could inspire so much passion in people, and trust 'I only bought it cos of Rick' that line comes up a lot. I don't think I have ever bought a product because of the celebrity endorsing it, not consciously anyway. As for the razor, only one guy said he did any research into DE shaving, the others are probably cartridge users who are used to doing one pass and can't understand why after one pass with a safety razor doesn't give them the same results. Shame, we could have had a lot of new DE shavers if they were taught how to use the razor, and kept the shop shut on easter Sunday.
Or one or more of the online wetshaving stores? The Micro Touch One could easily have a huge impact on their sales. Most of the earlier reviews are one star and most of the the recent reviews are four or five stars. Looks to me like a bunch of fake reviews.
That is the ultimate problem for a large majority of society in terms of who and what they worship. Too many people have lost any type of critical thinking so they follow so called "celebrities" rather than living their own lives.
It was in fact the MTO, from a CVS. The clincher was when I printed my coupons out from their Kiosk in the store... I got a $10 off any purchase coupon. So that sealed the deal. Paid $9.99 + 6% tax. I also ordered a couple Chinese models. So far the only one that has arrived is a Weishi 9306-H. Which, sadly, is identical to the MTO. But at least this confirms other members' suspicion that Weishi makes the MTO. They clearly do. It's identical down to the gram... Can't tell them apart visually either. The only way I know which is which is that the Weishi makes a small sound in the handle when I shake it, like there is some slightly loose part in the stem. Now I'm waiting for my 1966 Gillette Travel Tech to arrive, followed by a ~1954 Super Speed I'll need to recondition. They will be my first vintages. I bid on a couple of 1967 M-2 TTO's (an attempt at a birth year/birth quarter buy) but got outbid on both. Grrrr. If anyone has a 1967 M2 they are looking to get rid of (PIF or sale).......
I have -- Cabo Wabo Tequila (excellent) and Beach Bar Rum (too sharp for my taste without enough rum character). But I didn't buy the MTO because of Rick... I bought it because I had an interest in wet shaving. In fact, his endorsement on the box almost kept me from buying it in the first place. I wasn't sure I wanted to admit that I'd bought something endorsed by a faux-celebrity.
Aside from being just a little too mild for me I really thought that the Weishi was nicely made. It honestly was of pretty good quality for something that was only $8.00 with free shipping.
How dare you! How dare you even suggest that Rick Harrison isn't a God, or worthy of our worship! If Ford were to hire Rick Harrison to re-introduce the Pinto I would run out and buy 2! You sir are no Rick Harrison!
Lies, lies, all lies ~you bought this razor because Rick told you to buy this razor. We will do as Rick instructs us because he is our hero and we look up to him. Let us all bow to Rick.
I was waiting for Rick to say BUT WAIT, buy it now and we will send you 2 razors,,just pay additional shipping and handling blah blah blah. but the only extra was a few extra blades for about 30 bucks additional shipping,,and your personal info sold to a third party to try and suck a little more money out of your cc card for something you dont want.
Which makes it a good choice for those who have not used a safety razor before. A mild razor reduces the chance of irritation for wetshavers still mastering the very light pressure thing. While not thinking for oneself is a bad habit, it is not anything new. Celebrities have been used to pitch products for over 150 years. Not to mention all the influencer marketing that goes on in some of the wetshaving forums. There are a couple in particular, which shall go unnamed, that immediately spring to mind. Influencer marketing is hardly any different than celebrity marketing, it is just on a smaller scale. That is where independent forums, such as The Shave Den, play a role. Members at independent forums are free to describe their experiences with a product, whether good or bad. If Rick Harrison is able to raise awareness and introduce people to traditional wetshaving, good for him. The same goes for the Art of Shaving stores. Let us not forget that it was Corey Greenberg, a TV personality on the Today show, who jump started the current wetshaving boom. Yes, many people will buy the Micro Touch One razor because Rick told them to do so. Being thus freed from the Cult of the Cartridge and the Empire of the Electric, hopefully they will then start to question what they are told.
I fully agree that it's a good starter razor and something that will most likely wet the appetite. I can honestly say that I know not of his contribution as I have no idea of who he is... But from what I can gather he's on something called the Today show.
I have no idea who that guy is either, and I don't believe I've seen the Today show in over 20 years.
