I have not posted on this thread in a while. Razor - 57 SS Blade - Dorco st-301/Lab Lather - Craftsmen Unscented Brush - Semogue 1250 Post- Dove Men+ Care Hydrate Post Shave Balm Well, I have decided the SS isn't so bad with a good blade. I had some touchups so I paired it with a Lab. Maybe my lather was off the first time I paired the two together but this time it was fine or maybe I just needed a few shaves with it. I LOVE the 1250. I still need to decide if the Dove is good or not. Now as far as the Dorcos go I will pair it up with my Franekntech and see if they fair better with that razor.
Shave of the day Pre- Hot shower, Neutrogena Face Wash Soap- Unikbaby's All-Natural Handmade Soap - Bay Rum scent Brush- van der Hagen Boar Bristle Razor- Gillette 1957 C2 Super Speed Flare Tip Blade- Gillette 7 O'Clock Yellow Post- Warm rinse, cold water rinse, Razorock Alum Block, Bigelow No. 10 Witch Hazel Formulary Skin Tonic After- L'Occitane Cade After Shave Splash, L'Occitane Cade Energy Face Gel Well, there are "first times" and there are first times. Today I felt sort of like I graduated to the big leagues. Used a handmade soap in a Bay Rum scent with the brush which made a nice lather -- I think the soap must have some glycerine of oil in it because my head felt slick for the entire shave -- and then I used my "new to me" 1957 SS Flare Tip. Overall, BBS with no bleeding or tugging or irritation at all. New stuff arrived today. The soap I used -- sold by someone who goes by Unikbaby on eBay -- was lovely. Bay Rum scent without too much in the way if "clove notes." I only got a small bar of it for around $3 but I am inclined to buy more from her. Plus, my new Razorock alum block came in, so I can stop using my Crystal stick (at least until the Razorock is gone). So everything about the experience tonight made for a great "end of a long week" BBS shave. Now off to bed! Tomorrow I may try a shave with the RiMeii that arrived today. Though I can't imagine that it compares to the SS I used today, or even the Travel Tech I own. But for a total price of under $3.50 (including shipping!) my expectations for it are appropriately low. So maybe it will exceed those expectations.
Saturday: Neutrogena Men Facial Wash Large Horsehair Barbershop Super Speed/Rapira day 6 Stirling Glacial Lemon Chill SS Stirling Glacial Wintergreen WH Chabrawichi 555 Cologne To me, not to use a Stirling Glacial soap for more than one or two days is ignoring it seriously so today I went with the Lemon Chill which is such a pleasure to lather up with. The scent to me is delightful - it's like a combination of powerful menthol and freshly-squeezed lemon juice. It froze the daylights out of my face and when I slapped on the Glacial Wintergreen witch hazel, I swear that my face felt almost completely numb. This shave was mega-BBS and beautiful.

9/6/14 Prep: Warm wash with Stirling Naked & Smooth bath soap Lather: Ian S. hobbyist Lavender soap Brush: Vie-Long Lord Randal mixed horse & badger Razor: Gillette New LC Blade: Sharp Durablade stainless (3) Post: Cool rinse and Captain's Choice Lime I've struggled a bit with decent lather on the 2nd and 3rd passes with this soap, so I thought I might try a different brush and see what would happen. I used a mixed badger/horse brush and the lather was much better and longer lasting. I loaded the brush well and then made the first pass right on my face. Slick and shiny and did a a great job of protecting. I then whipped the brush just a little in the scuttle and the lather was good for the 2nd pass. The third pass started out a little thin, so I added a few drops of water to the scuttle and whipped the lather for a bit and finished off well.
Smooth Saturday Having used both, I expected WSP barbershop to match well with HTGAM Gondolier, but they feel like they are made for each other. My Plisson synthetic easily built great lather on my face, which my iKon SC101 comfortably mowed. I went with the smaller brush today to make it easier to load from the tin. The Gondolier AS cologne perfectly finished this shave. I also used my newly acquired Gondolier deodorant, so I'm enjoying this manly classic all day. Razor: 2013 Muhle Baseplate w C410i Spitfire Mk. Ia (3D print cap) Blade: Personna Med Prep (D3) Brush: Turkish #1 Horsehair Bowl: Mud Place Shaving Mug Pre Shave Soap: MRGLO Lime Pre Shave Balm: Proraso Sensitive Shave Soap: HTGAM Cavendish Post: Monster Alum Block Aftershave: HTGAM Cavendish Lotion I used 3500 then 12000 grit to sand the 3D print head BBS and noticed the razor glided a little smoother this morning. Like the original 2011 R41 my face can handle only two consecutive days of use. The shave itself had no irritation, blade did not skip and no weepers, but when I applied the Alum block there was hot spots all over the place. Has been months since I last used the Cavendish shave soap and have to thank a friend for reminding me I had this on the shelf when he fired up his pipe and had a bowl of black Cavendish after a nice BBQ dinner. I gave up pipe smoking 11 months ago but I really miss the smell of a nice bowl of Tobacco now and then.
