Concur. I have 3 of his Bay Rum soaps and @ $4 a puck a pretty good little soap. All 3 are loaded with fragrance. I'm planning on using his Bay Rum w Ginger for Monday's shave. http://www.pyratecovesoapworks.com/index3.htm

Episode V - The Japanese Empire Strikes Back I've never been too found of the Japanese Feather blade. It shaves just fine and I have really nothing to complain about. But, and this is just placebo talking, I find them rather boring. I do not know quite how to explain it, but I have very little interest in shaving with these blades. Yesterday I got a small batch of Kai blades. This is another Japanese blade, and is often compared to the Feather blade, and rightly so. But these are still a lot more interesting to shave with. Granted, I have only used it once, but I still found myself fascinated with it. They where very sharp, and somewhat smooth, and they cut through my beard like hot butter, but in the same way felt like it did not. Not sure how to explain this properly either, but that's what made it so fascinating. I look forward to using this blade again. The soap from Portland General Store smells wonderful of fake whiskey, and it performs great too. I really need to use this more often, but sadly I can only shave once a day. I ought to get the matching aftershave, but its difficult to get in my part of the world. Maybe next year Ogallala Bay Rum is the best Bay Rum in the known galaxy. Where normal bay rums are lacking in zest and panache, Ogallala has both in abundance. I do not detect a hint of christmas or any other holyday in the scent, but I guess that might be a cultural thing. When my samples of Ogallala Bay Rum runs dry, it is safe to say that I will stock up with full sized bottles. But the best part of this aftershave is not the scent, but the delicious burn. No sting, just a wonderful and delightful burn that really wakes up my face in the morning. I love it. It was late....Too late to go back to the party and too early to go to bed.... I decided what I needed was a shave....a close shave....the kind of close shave, I can only get from a single edge....maybe embracing my Schick Injector would be just the trick to make me feel refreshed and ready for what surprises this night might have in store...... Please indulge me...I couldn't resist....I did draw the line before placing a lit cigarette in an ashtray...ha,ha But aside from the FilmNoir rhetoric, the shave was late in the evening after a party, and it was exactly what I needed to feel refreshed and ready for....
Sunday: #6 Horsehair Super Speed/Rapira day 7 SuperMax Menthol SC Lubriderm Unscented Moisturizer Mennen Skin Bracer AS Here's a cream which I haven't used in a long time and it's fantastic - the SuperMax Menthol cream from Bulgaria which I received from my good friend Veli is an awesome latherer with a nice scent. The cooling effect is relatively mild, in fact compared to what I've been using lately it feels almost insignificant but it can still be felt. The Skin Bracer aftershave is absolutely necessary for me because I love the scent as well as the strong menthol punch it gives me. My Rapira is pretty well done now, but it still gave me an excellent shave. I find the longevity of these blades to be the best. My beard is very tough but these blades are great for cutting it and they're very smooth as well as sharp.

Sunday: Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub, TSD Jasmine Sambac Preshave balm Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger Soap: Ginger's Garden Coffee Jasmine Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC Blade: Asco Red SS Passes: WTG, XTG, ATG (1, 2, 2) Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, RazoRock Cumba Cheech AS lotion Cologne: Jasmin et Cigarette by Etat Libre d' Orange A combination of laziness and some tenderness along my jawline where the Baili had given up the ghost on Friday had me skipping Saturday's shave; then, an unexpected change in my morning routine had me leaving the luxurious Ginger's Garden lather on my face for several more minutes than normal before I took the first pass. These factors, combined with the generally excellent materials I used, may cause me to revise my definition of a BBS shave, as today's shave was as close as I can ever recall getting. There was no bloodshed, though the alum did find a couple of hot spots and my jawline is a touch irritated along my right-hand side. I could easily attribute the irritation to the use of a new blade without platinum or chrome coating, as those materials seem to suit me best in a blade.
9/7/14 Prep: Warm wash with Stirling Naked & Smooth bath soap Lather: hobbyist IanS lavender shave soap (no discernable scent remaining) Brush: Omega B&B boar Razor: Gillette New LC Blade: Sharp Durablade Stainless Post: cool rinse and Captain's Choice Bay Rum I've not used a boar brush in over a month. I have irritation and perhaps razor burn on my neck. Connected? 2 passes, both WTG and shave is as close as any I normally get with 3 passes, but dang, that burned neck! Connected to different technique?

Don't get pushy I decided to push my Personna lab blue blade to a fourth shave, and all seemed well until a little while after I was done shaving. My neck is a bit tender and burnt. Usually I go three and out with any blade, but curiosity got the best of me. The WSP soap provided easy lather again, and my Plisson did it's job well, but I still like my HIS better. I tried Proraso Green Splash to see if it pairs well with the WSP, and it's ok, but not the best so far.
