Suzumasa 1000 frameback I hadn't shaved since Sunday night. I was considering going back to growing a beard, but now that it is mostly white, I feel more like Gabby Hayes.
You & me both, brother! This is why I'm beardless. I'm not ready for the Gabby Hayes-look just yet.... A white soul patch is enough....
I used my Hart Custom 6/8 # 54 today http://www.classicshaving.com/hart-...ales-terry-vannorman-custom.html#.VBr-RJV0w0k
Tamako YSK Jamie, I can't quite get the hang of tightening the pins yet. I have a little hammer, but one side is rubber and the other hard plastic. I'll get a steel one tomorrow and try or visit my straight razor mentor in Chapel Hill. The Perfection is tight at 80 degrees but will not hold below that.
I didn't shave today, but I did tighten the pivot pins on these two straights. I thought the large Perfection would not work since the blade is so heavy, but with the right tools, it was easy to tighten with a few taps. Open without cork aids.
Well done Robert, but the thought of that large Eastwing hitting the pivot pin makes me rather nervous, but I'm glad it worked out for you I would be looking for a small ball peen hammer around 3oz in weight.
Yeah, I knew I was taking my chances. I choked up on the hammer and was very careful. Home Depot is just lacking in craftsmen tools. I'm not sure where to buy them other than online. Maybe a woodworking shop or craft store.
Amazon… 2-ouncer as well as a 4-ouncer. Amazon has a pretty good range in price. HomeDepot & most big box stores typically only carry the larger ballpeens.
Or a domed chasing hammer...broad face and a light touch. 3 oz. - http://www.widgetsupply.com/product/XMJ3-8340CHP.html 4 oz. - http://www.widgetsupply.com/product/WC08.html No shave for me again today, but it's been a week and I'm about ready to cave!
Thanks for more info. I just read about chasing hammers. I wonder what they are chasing. I liked those domed hammers. That's what I was looking for at Home Depot after watching a video of Lynn Abrams use one to tighten pins. I was going to grow a beard all of last week and this coming week, myself but gave up. It's hard to see myself in the mirror in the early phase of a beard and too much fun shaving with a straight. Let's shave Sunday morning.
Chasing lil' miss Pinny all around the shop I suppose! I think you're right Robert, tomorrow morning it is! I've been missing my morning shaves all week, and the whiskers are just begging to be mowed down. It's embarrassing honestly...listening to a once proud beard beg like that...
