So, I ordered a Fatboy on eBay and got pretty lucky because it was only listed as a "Gillette Adjustable Safety Razor", so I was able to basically steal it (at least in terms of what they go for on eBay)... $25.

It didn't look very nice in the photos. See below. I was a little worried.

But I figured, what the heck. Maybe it will look a little better if I give it a little TLC.

So, when it finally arrived today, I washed, parboiled, scrubbed, oiled, lightly buffed, and dug with a soft interdental pick for a grand total of about 40 minutes, while I was engaged (yawn) in a conference call. And this is what emerged.

Black numbers and ring all still intact, and it functions flawlessly. The "before" shots don't even do it justice. This thing was scuzzy.

Quite proud of the results. Tomorrow I take her for a spin. She's an F1 by the way. I couldn't even tell that until after the cleaning. :)

Great price, and great job on cleaning that beauty up. When I use my FB I lightly clean it with a wet washcloth and give it a good rinse with no blade and the doors open. I also move the adjuster down to 1 and up to 9 to help keep the insides unclogged. I then spray some isopropanol alcohol on it repeating the adjuster routine. I then take a Q-tip to the inside of the head in all those nooks and crannies. I then hang it with the doors open. I know, sounds like a lot but I plan on keeping this as nice as I got it. And it does not take long. You should see me wash my 13 year old car. Have a great shave with the best DE razor IMHO that there is.:eatdrink047:

Nice job! If you get another one in that condition, don't boil it. Water that hot can damage a razor's internal mechanism and finish. If you really feel it's necessary to give it some heat to break up dirt and soap residue, bring some water to a boil, let it settle down for a minute, and pour it over the razor in a bowl with some dishwashing liquid. To sanitize a razor, just dip it in alcohol and let it air dry. You can also run it through the dishwasher on the top shelf.

Thanks! Remarkably, I paid less for the Fatboy than I did for my Slim. (The Slim is my birth quarter, though.)
