As I said to several other guys who claimed they have trouble with the lather - try uncovering the puck and leaving it out for a month. That should give it the time it needs to cure better and the lather will improve.
SEptember 23's Dove Men's Face Wash TABAC Shaving Soap Frank Shaving Finest Badger Schick L-1 (first shave) Schick Plus Platinum CWR, Asma Alum Block Thayers Rose Petal WH Pinaud Clubman AS The TABAC Shaving Soap face-lathered very easily with my Frank Shaving Finest Badger Brush. Two passes with my Schick L-1 and Schick Plus Platinum blade gave me a close, comfortable shave. After a cold water rinse, alum block, and a final cold water rinse, I finished off with Thayers Rose Petal WH and then Pinaud Clubman after shave. I am clean, smooth, and refreshed...
Monday morning - Prep - Noxzema & hot towel Lather - Cella Extra Extra Purissima & suribachi Brush - Baton 105 refurbished with TGN 2-band, 24/44 Razor - Wade & Butcher 13/16 India Steel & Garland 5/8 Improved Eagle 2 pass Warm water rinse & cold water splash Alum block & Witch-hazel AS First shave in 8 days this morning, Wade & Butcher wedge one side and Garland hollow ground the other. The edge on both razors are very keen and both shaves were perfectly smooth. Coin toss really - the hollow needed a little more push, but the results from both were very comfy.
It's been uncovered in the lathering bowl I got with my VDH kit since I got it, so it's been uncovered and out for at least that long.
Do you find the lather to be thin or just difficult to create? The reason I ask is because my Obsidian puck lathers perfectly. I find that a relatively dry brush and adding water gradually helps with this particular soap. The lather I get is very rich and creamy. (and damned COLD!)
TUESDAY Evening Shave for Tomorrow Back-to-work Tuesday comes bright & early in the AM so tonight I get to use for the first time this newly restored Koch 'Faultless.' It took a nice edge (easy-to-hone German-made blade! ) and the resulting shave was a good one! Shea butter shave cream was über-slick which made the whole process very enjoyable. Have a great Tuesday, everyone!
Nice "Black Beauty" you have there! How do you like the Jack Black cream? I have the AS gel balm and like it.
SOTD September 22, 2014 Prep: Hot shower. Neutrogena Pink Grapefruit Foaming Scrub. Brush: Vintage Ever-Ready Boar Bristle with Hard Rubber Grip. Lather: Arko! Razor: Vintage Gillette Ball End Tech 3-piece razor, C3 code (1957) Blade: Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum Post: Cold water; Razorock Alum Block; Witch Hazel After: Old Spice Pure Sport. First time using Arko, and the first time using my new-to-me Ever-Ready board brush. Have to say that it was a great experience. Reminded me of my Grandfather, which makes me wonder if he used something like Arko. I paired it with the Tech, which I have found I sometimes prefer because it seems to give me the feeling that I know precisely where the leading edge of the blade is at all times. Regardless, it all added up to a BBS shave tonight, and I'll definitely use both the Arko and the Ever-Ready again.

Menthol Monday! Superb shave today! The Proraso got me off to a cold start that never let up. I actually had to stop and wipe tears out of my eyes. It's been too long since I used FrostByte! This soap is excellent. I almost couldn't feel the Aristocrat cutting my stubble throughout this smooth and easy shave. No weepers or irritation at all. The FrostByte aftershave lotion fed my face and kicked up the menthol to make it last longer. Glorious. The stand was made for me by my friend JR - thanks again, sir! Excellent workmanship. thanks I have warned up to the black Jack. at first I wasnt fond of it. but it does a pretty good job. it wasn't very cheap though.
Tuesday: Neutrogena Men Facial Wash Large Horsehair Barbershop Super Speed/Sharp day 2 Synergy Frost_byte SS Lubriderm Unscented Moisturizer Osage Rub AS Oscar de la Renta Pour Lui EdT OMG, Frost_byte is a perfect name for this soap because it can really freeze a man's face off. As I've said, it's not as cold as the Stirling Glacial soaps or the Yeti Snot but the difference is not big, believe me. It lathers like a maniac so easily and it gives pretty good skincare as well. The Rubby Dubby Doo provided a HELL of an additional menthol wallop for me which felt terrific after this shave which was awesome. These Sharp blades are good - ok, not quite as long-lasting as the Rapiras but still good enough. I have no issues with them at all.
