To all, welcome to a new recurring thread called Open Comb Central. This thread is dedicated to the users of Open Comb razors and discussions thereof. Now the qualification is that the teeth of the comb must be totally open in order to qualify. Hybrid web combs such as the Mühle R41 series, Nellite 400's (and similar to it), Barbasols, PAL DEs are not up for discussion here. Please do not make this into a Hybrid comb or Closed Comb (where the teeth are terminated with a bar) thread. Those can be handled in other thread. For this thread simply photos and discussions of undisputed Open Combs will do. Aristocrats, OCMMs, Senators, Sheratons, Cadet OCs, Old Types, New Types, New Improved, etc. are all good examples. In fact ... For the first posting of an Open Comb I will start of with my planned shave for the 1st of October.
I only have one OC to date. I will start OCtober with it. A nice mild, but efficient shaver - Parker 24c
I'll throw this guy out there. I thought today was the first, my bad. but this open comb is the meanest razor I own. any loss of concentration, this guy will bite you. to much pressure, you'll feel it all day long. get it right, your smooth. I present the Fatip Grande, in gun metal finish. I think is a beautiful razor, and mean as a snake.
I have several OC's, but my favorites are a Gillette "NEW" long comb and a Cadet OC. Both give me close, smooth, effective, irritation free shaves.. I wish I could get ahold of a Weber OC cheap. Wouldn't mind an iKon OC either, but getting either for a price I'd be willing to pay, will be a long shot in the dark..
The only open comb in use in my den is the Gillette Popular 1938, I use it mostly when it's been awhile since the last shave, I like it most for three day whiskers.
I hadn't realized I had as many open comb razors until this thread. iKon DLC OC Gillette New SC OCMM FaTip Piccolo Old Type With the exception of the FaTip and OCMM the rest of my OC's are on the mild/efficient side. The OCMM is a Great razor! The FaTip has its place in my den, right now it's in its box, in a drawer.
For open combs, I currently only have an OCMM in my den inventory ("denventory"? Did I just invent a word?) However, I just paid for my latest eBay purchase, and when it arrives I intend to put it to work immediately! Really excited to get this one:
