That old New had to be one of the worst razors I've ever held. Just disgusting. You know its in really bad, bad shape when you open the envelope it arrived in and the stench from the package is off-putting. Old, mildewed metal... I wore gloves when handling it….yuck! No, I didn't shave with it at this time. A bit of elbow grease (okay..a LOT of elbow grease…and sanitizer…and cleaner), and it cleaned up pretty up darn well. No beauty contest winner—but it was transformed into pretty nice OC shaver!
Found out the hard way I can only use a Gem blade for 4 shaves. Tried to stretch the blade to 5 shaves and had a terrible first pass. Changed the blade and the rest of the shave was great. Razor Gem Micromatic Open Comb Gem Blade Semogue brush Tabac Nivea sensitive balm Clubman Special Reserve.

today I used an open comb old ball end. this old timer has been dropped several times, all the end teeth are bent in. someone may have purposely done it. doesn't look terrible, but definitely not mint and frosty anymore. that's ok it's mine now, I'm gonna love it, just the way it is.

today I used a Gillette new long comb with a bar handle. it is not date coded. but does have a reissued pat number. I tried to research it and think it dates to about 1933. if I'm not right,( which happens occasionally), please share your thoughts. the razor shaved nice, seemed a little milder than some of the others. same head shape, maybe the handle made me hang on to it differently. anyway here is my next OC tober submission
I stopped at an antique shop where I had found a couple razors in the past just to take a look. I picked up THIS razor. It was black and ugly and labeled as a "1920's razor". A little elbow grease and a soft brass brush makes all the difference! It's got a tiny crack in the handle, but that's not uncommon. All the teeth are straight, so I've finally got my NEW for $9! Can't wait to try it out.
