True, but in researching which one will be my first, I realized it won't be my last. I have a whole list lol. That's why I think the OP won't stop at one either. Very addictive hobby!
Muhle STF (2.0) Large - Fantastic brush. Tips are as soft as can be, yet it still has some backbone. Requires very little product to produce masses of lather.
As per above recommendation, I have muhle silvertip v2 19mm, truly hard differetiate it from the real thing. But what everybody says boar is the cheapest entry to natural fibre brush. If you wanna go silvertip then go for whipped dog, the best value out there.
I will tell you my experience but it my opinion only and many will defend the boar. I started out with a $40 Muhle boar. I used it for three months with a DE, then a good friend who has been sr shaving for many years got me to switch to a SR. After another months or so he finally convinced me to get a good two band badger. It was really hard to spend $160 on a brush but I did. I bought a Thater 4125/2 and there is so much difference between a lather with it and the boar that it is incredible. My wife said she would never pay that for a brush. She is a sr shaver of the legs and decided to take over my boar brush along with another cheaper boar and a horsehair plus a small simpson badger that I won. So last sunday she wanted me to make her a nice lather and I used the Thater two band. I handed it to her loaded up with lather and after her shave she commented that there was a big difference in the brushes and could she use mine from now on. She now appreciates why I bought it. I don't like a floppy brush and the Thater is soft but firm. That's mu story and I am sticking to it LOL
I have to admit in looking through the brushes I've gone "ooh that one's nice" about... fifteen times now. Just aiming to get the basics for the moment though!
+1 on Connaught Shaving. They are a very good option even for customers in the US, not to mention within the UK. They sell an Omega 50014 boar travel brush for less than £10.80 including shipping. That is a very reasonable price for a fine little brush, and an inexpensive way to see if you like boar brushes. At the very least, you have a brush for traveling regardless of whether or not you decide to go with boar for your everyday brush. New Forest Brushes is run by a shaving enthusiast in the UK, and offers outstanding value for the money and top quality. It is like a British version of The Whipped Dog. As with Connaught Shaving, New Forest is a great option even for customers outside the UK.
anyone own a thater 3 band? something like the 4292/4 as well as the savile row 3824 ? i have the savile row and wanted to know how the thater compared
11047 is quite pricklish... I like the looks and performance, but it is not very friendly on my face.
