Razor: Gillette Old Type Open Comb Ball End NDC 1920s (from "The Weekender" by Metalfield kit) Brush: Fuller Amber Badger 1920s -1940s Mug: Old Spice 1985 Cobalt Blue Cream: TOBS Coconut Blade: Feather (2) Pre shave: Tree Hut Shea Body wash Mango Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Nivea Men Post Shave Balm, OS Shulton I'm giving The Gillette Old Type OC another shot and will work on my technique. It does give me some burn if I use to much pressure and I go over an area more than once on each pass. The pre shave Shea soap helps keep my skin slick in the drier weather. The Fuller brush whipped up a thick lather and I screwed in the Feather, and checked the alignment and was good to go for my first pass WTG. I have been paying attention to the other post in the Open Comb OCtober thread about using a very shallow angle to get a smother shave. I think it worked. I also did not rinse the razor much but kept it full of lather which gave me more cushion. A little rinse to see how we are doing and relather for a XTG pass on my face and ATG on my neck. No touch up and we are done. A very close shave. Warm water rinse and pat dry. Some WH and after cleanup some Nivea Balm and some OS. I will have to use this razor more often, and work on my technique with it. Have a good one.
Shave for OCtober 13th ... The FaTip is a very aggressive razor and even in this configuration I will only use it a second day (13th) and then move to something else in the OC rotation. Usually a razor such as this, or the 2013 R41, gets used for two days then it is back to a less aggressive razor.
Oct 12 2014 1924 silver plated Tuckaway Wilkinson classic blade, 11th use RazoRock HTGAM "The Beach" shave soap Vie-Long Peleón horse hair brush HTGAM alcohol free Scentsless AS The last three items were a surprise from my wife, got them in the mail on Saturday from HTGAM. I had told her about some items I would like to try so she ordered a few of them for me. After 30 years of marriage, she still spoils me. Of course if you repeat that I said that, I'll have to deny it.
No worries! The Merkur 15C (short handle, shown) and the 25C (long handle, same head) are mild, and excellent quality razors. Mine works well with a variety of blades, including Astra SP and SS, Shark SS, Personna (red), Gillette 7OC (green), and Big Ben SS.

I used my Old Type today and was rewarded with a most wonderful shave. I loaded it with a Vintage Wilkinson sword blade and it felt like there was nothing there. So smooth and sharp. The old type is one of my top performing razors for close smooth shaves. Zero razor burn on a 4 pass shave. BBS and AGAIG.

I've been using my ATT H2 most of the month, except when traveling. It's working so well I'm just going to stick with it for a few more days I think. I've also been using Proraso white pre-shave and soap. After a pretty long-term test of both, I love the soap and even though I liked the pre-shave at first, I've become a little indifferent on it. It's not bad but I think I was getting slightly better results with my normal Nivea chilled face wash prep. The Proraso pre-shave is also a little spendier so I think when this jar is gone I'll go back to my old pre-shave routine. I'm guessing I have enough of the soap to get me through the next week or two and I'm going to finish it off. Then maybe I'll switch to something non-mentholated like Proraso red or maybe Tabac.
