It's purely synthetic. MSDS here: http://www.eezox.info/msds.html Now in reading this, I see it's reactive with nitric acid producing HCl. Nitric acid is the destructive product from the celluloid decomposition reaction. Nitric acid is bad for your steel (as we know well from seeing the victims of cell rot). HCl in aqueous form is Hydrochloric acid. Also very bad for your steel. From this information, I would not apply Eezox to a razor clad in celluloid scales, simply because if the celluloid does begin suddenly to rot, the negative effect from the additional HCl produced by the nitric acids further reaction with the Eezox will accelerate the deterioration of the steel of the blade. But, with horn, bone, modern plastic, wood, ivory, tortoise, or anything else not at risk of producing nitric acid (or overtly basic in pH), Eezox is a safe bet.
How to stop cell rot and keep your razors looking in pretty much in perfect condition, Tutankhamun was laid to rest almost 3500 years ago, then in 1922 the English Archaeologist Howard Carter found him he looked pretty much the same as when he was buried yesterday and the conditions were dry cool and in complete darkness, so if it's good enough for Tutankhamun then it's pretty much going to work for my razor.
Interesting...never really thought of celluloid rot in straights before...I but then again ignorance really is bliss! No point in fretting about what you really have no control over I'd say. My razors stay in those socks from Sack-Ups/SRD, and then altogether in an old cordura toiletry bag, zippered closure and with some sort of water-proof/resistant lining. This morning's shave was the Greaves again and it was a good 'un!
Hoffritz Windsor boar brush Nice shave this morning. I've been messing with this edge for a couple of evenings and finally got what I wanted out of it, a fine close shave. Have a good one.
Reset the bevel (I'm getting plenty of practice doing this during my post-surgery recovery period!)…and had one of the smoothest shaves! Put a decent edge on an inexpensive 'Goodwill store' razor & you can still get a quality shave!
Packwood 13/16 short tail that I picked up a while back now but just got around to honing this past week. It honed in beautifully and I used a balsawood bench strop pasted with chromium oxide for the first time as well. An excellent shave and a curiously satisfying vibe shaving with something so old.
5/8 Puma De Vergulde Hand homemade boar Nice shave, love this brush. I'm going boar and the heck with the rest. Have a good one.
Thanks, Lou! I saw this and thought, "I wonder what medications people think I'm on when they read this?" Thank you, AutoCorrect! "Practice"—not "Arctic"…."Practice"……..(fixed)
