New to wet shaving, and I just ordered a couple of soaps from TSD, including the pumpkin one, which in excited to try. I wanted to know what others like I'm terms of soaps, as well as any ideas on scents such as leather, sandalwood, woodsy, musky. For comparison, I use Dolce&Gabbana cologne, love Fahrenheit, Jean Paul Gaultier, etc
All from. TSD I have and like that may meet your needs: Cedarwood English Fern Leather Sandalwood Egyptian Spice Blue Juniper
When I was new to wet shaving I was only interested in sandalwood. Eventually after buying some samplers (soaps/creams) I warmed up to some of the other scents you mentioned (leather, woodsy, musk) but still wasn't too interested in floral or fruity scents. As more time passed (and I sampled more product) I found myself being drawn to many scents that I previously had no interest in. If you read members' daily shaves (SOS forum) you'll see some will stick to just a few while others will use a wide variety. Many of the vendors (TSD included) offer sample sizes which is a great low cost way to experiment. There's quite a few products out there that are similar to the ones you mentioned and Steve has already noted some excellent choices from TSD (and you can get sample sizes). I might also add Truefitt & Hill Grafton and Truefill & Hill Trafalgar.
Cedarwood Fresh Dirt (patchouli warning) Gunpowder Indonesian Teakwood Jasmine* Oakmoss Sandalwood Tabac Type Yves Saint Laurent L'homme type *Allegedly worn by Middle Eastern/Persian warriors of antiquity to overcome the scent of blood, plus fragrance is only really 'masculine' or 'feminine' if you associate it that way. Jasmine Sambac (Arabian Jasmine) is generally much more 'masculine' than Jasmine Grandiflorium, by common perception.
Scents that I adore: Sandalwood Rose Bay Rum (not the traditional one) Jasmine Vanilla Sandalwood Lemongrass & Eucalyptus
