So all my stuff arrived yesterday, so today was my first DE Shave. All I can say is WOW!!! Here is what I used:

    • RazoRock Mission
    • Astra SP
    • Plisson Synthetic
    • RazoRock XXX
    • Alum Block
    • Fine Fresh Vetiver AS
Prior to shave I took a hot shower washed face with Nieva sensitive skin soap. After the shower applied hot towel to my face 3 times. RazoRock XXX did not disappoint, lathered nicely(still have to work on my technique). Did a 2 pass shave with great results, nice smooth clean shave, 1 minor nick at the bottom of my neck. Overall a great experience, can't believe I took this long to make the plunge as this shave was so much better than the old cartridge razor. Yes it was more time consuming but I really enjoyed it and love the results!

Congratulations! Looks like you had some great products to start with and have already gotten off to a good start on your technique as well! :signs107:

Good job! Agree with both comments above, I didn't think it could get better but it does!

This is a common comment usually made by those new to wet-shaving. Sure, it may require additional time than a quick cartridge shave in the shower, but the majority of guys who make the switch to DE or SE wet-shaving rarely go back to old method of cart shavers & canned foam.

Congrats on a good shave. As you go on, the shaves will naturally get quicker, as will your lather making. If you used the Alum and it didn't sting your whole face, you may be close to using no presure. They only get better from here.

Yeah I don't think I did to bad based on the alum block feedback. Had a little stinging & irritation where I nicked myself but overall everything else was great.

:happy096: on you first "traditional" DE shave. You have a good preshave prep, as well as a very good starter kit. As has been said, if you liked this first shave, as time passes the shaves will only get even better and better!! :)

Nice! You are using a nice setup. Consider just sticking to 2passes till you get the pressure and angles right. It will only take a few tries! As others have said, it just gets easier faster and more fun from this point.

Just out of curiosity, take all the steps you have taken, but use your cartridge. I cannot say if you will get the same results and the same pleasure, but you will be surprised with the results, for sure. You might also try your DE razor while following the routine usual for your earlier cartridge shaves. :)

The experience shared by the members of this great forum helps to develop correct techniques and use good products for wet shaving, which allow to get great results with disposable and cartridge razors as well.

+ 1. I must add that the first few times I shaved my head with a DE I was hesitant. Now I much prefer it to Cartridges.

My experience is that the Alum tells me where I have messed up. And, it's not afraid to say it loudly.:)
