I don't mind a good smoked brisket, but pork, to me, just has so much more flavor. @ObiDon - yes, the ribs are heavenly. I keep a jar of sauce in the fridge at all times, as well. I make a snack out of Dreamland sauce and white bread!!! At one time, though, my regular meal there was a pulled pork sandwich, their baked beans, and finish it off with their banana pudding (heavenly). Since then I was diagnosed with diabetes, so the beans and pudding are out, but I can eat all the carb-less ribs I want. I've told my wife I will die with a Dreamland rib lodged in an artery!
Wow! I have not heard that song in, forever. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. My mom, brother and I would take the train from Chicago down to Tuscaloosa every year to spend the summer. My dad would come down for vacation in August and the we would all drive back.
Hello, and welcome to The Shave Den! My dad hails from Russellville, Alabama. I'm also a big fan of TOBS Avocado and Sandalwood. And I will have to check out Dreamland next time I'm down your way!
Welcome to the Den. My late wife has family that live in the Gardendale area of B'ham. I used to love grabbing a burger from Milo's and hot dogs from Sneaky Pete's. I have been to Dreamland in Tuscaloosa and Atlanta. The original is better, but being from the North Georgia mountains I prefer a little mustard in my sauce.
I attended Jackie Sherrill's first game as coach at MSU like 25 years ago. Starkville is a good time, only 90 miles from Bama.
I'd love to chime in about how FSU is going to repeat again this year but as big a fan as I am, I have not been impressed this year. We may make the playoffs but I don't think we'll get far.
I live just down the "road" from Gardendale (I-65) in the Hoover area. I like Milo's from time to time, but my wife doesn't like the sauce they put on their burgers, so I don't go so often. Sneaky Pete's is good, but there is actually a small place near the railroad tracks downtown (the name is escaping me right now) that actually has better dogs. I agree about mustard sauce - after the Dreamland sauce, I think a good mustard sauce is wonderful. We also have a place here called Miss Myra's (I think) that was featured on Bizarre Foods America that has a white sauce - mayonnaise based. Didn't much care for the sauce, but their meat has a really good smoke flavor to it, and I can eat it dry.
I have not been a fan of FSU for some time. I had a friend in high school who was an FSU fanatic, and it annoyed me so much that to this day, I still can't stand them. I heard they are postponing, yet again, Infamous Jameis' disciplinary hearing.
White sauce was invented by Big Bob Gibson at his BBQ joint in Decatur. You rarely see it outside of north Alabama. It is for smoked chicken mostly. It's vinegar, mayonnaise, tons of cracked pepper and a couple secrets.
I am still not counting Auburn out of playing the potential role of spoiler, either, if we get past Mississippi State. Roll Tide Roll! I have already got one of my sons also rooting for the Tide, but he has to be quiet about it when we go to my inlaws in Tennessee - they are all Vols fans, as is my wife, and can't stand the Tide.
Yep, that's what they use it for at Myra's. The flavor of her chicken is amazing - I just don't care for the white sauce. But then I'm not a big mayo fan.
