SOTD Nov 19 Prep: hot shower Razor: G. Wostenholm and Son CANUCK Brush: Vie-Long Soap: Taylor Grapefruit Passes: 2 (WTG, XTG) Post: alum I don't take the time to use a straight razor as much as I'd like to especially on weekdays. Hopefully to day was the first day of changing that. The shave itself was a tad on the rough side and my technique with my neck need some work.
Wednesday 11/19/14 Prep: glycerin soap Pre-Shave Oil: Shave Secret Brush: 20mm Whipped dog set deep Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery Razor: Gillette New Long Comb Blade: voskhod Lather: Provence Sante Post: Alum sprayed on Witch Hazel: Generic unscented A/S: Stirling Sharp Dressed Man Balm: Avon Musk Marine After Shave Conditioner I decided to open a pack of Voskhods today because I haven't used them for a while. They are a good blade, but are a touch rougher than the Ladas blade and don't last for more than 3 shaves on my face. Provence Sante is, IMHO, a great soap with only one issue. The issue is that this soap does not last long at all. In fact, it may be the fastest soap I have seen in terms of the number of shaves per puck. But, it is still my favorite.

WEDNESDAY I love the feel of this razor! I'm also cautious with it as it has a large blade with an acutely-sharp point (ouch!). I find I am enjoying the larger boars (omegas) more with each use. I used to think I preferred badger brushes. There's something about the firm, heavy application of lather with boars that I find appealing. It is nice to have variety, but I fear I'm becoming one of the boar fan-boys…...

The #6 whipped up the Cella to a wonderful yogurt like consistency. The Shake Sharp paired with the Astra SP and the Quick Cutter made short work of the stubble. The ASB is gives great protection and the Grey Flannel cologne will keep me smelling good all day. All in all an almost BBS shave. Have a blessed day!

SOTD 19 Nov 2014 Pre- Corn Huskers Soap - RazoRock XXX Brush - Plisson Razor - Merkur 34C Blade - Merkur (1) Well with hesitation due to all the less than positive reviews of the Merkur Blade, I finally tried it today. Call it lucky, me being more cautious than normal, but for me it is a great blade. No tugging, pulling, nicks, cuts or weepers. I would say a DFS all around. Another lesson in YMMV is very much at play, especially with blades. Not sure if there is a difference between the orange and white packs, description appears the same - Platinum Stainless Steel. Now are they worth 4-5x the cost? I have to see how many shaves I can get out of them first. But right now, for me, doubtful. It seems I only get 3 shaves regardless of blade, so I need to get 12-15 shaves a blade. The only blade i think that is possible is the Personna 74's but we shall see.
If you're familiar with Terre d' Hermes, the RR Son of Zeus soap is pretty dead on. I know cologne type soaps aren't for everyone, but I really like the scent strength and performance. Now I just need to find the matching aftershave. The SC102 delivered another super smooth result, and I really like how it cleans up my neck area without irritation. You can just feel the quality when you hold it in your hand. Have a good HUMP day gents...
Wednesday: hot shower w/T&H Grafton bar soap Maggard Cherry Sandalwood Vanilla PSO Parker 80R 2+ passes Gillette Wilkinson (5) Omega boar T&H Grafton cream in a warm mug Thayers unscented w/aloe T&H Grafton AS balm Must of thought I was Cassius Clay this morning trying some fancy footwork around my Adam's apple and ended up with a weeper. Other than that a very nice shave with some excellent hardware and software.
Odin's Day: Prep: Hot shower, Healthy Accents Daily Renewal cleanser, TSD Jasmine Sambac Preshave balm Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger Soap: RazoRock One-X Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC Blade: Dorco-300 (2) Passes: WTG, XTG, ATG (4, 5, 6) Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Pinaud Clubman AS splash Cologne: Le 3e Homme d' Caron by Caron What a difference a day - and a better (for me) soap/croap/cream - makes. My lather was considerably creamier and slicker today with the One-X than yesterday with the Godrej cream, which helped the Dorco-300 really glide effortlessly over my stubble. I'm sure the fact that the blade had a few passes on it to smooth out any minor imperfections helped some too. Three passes, BBS results, no bloodshed or irritation whatsoever. Finished with the Clubman simply because I'm preserving my stock of the One-X splash.
