Light rain and mild here this morning, 38ºF/3ºC. High near 50ºF/10ºC this afternoon with a stiff breeze, 25-30 mph with gusts to 45 mph. Maybe a lil' snow tonight...if we're lucky. A very nice shave this morning. The Packwood is a pleasure to use, partially because it's so old but also it's a nice smooth blade, plus it's a bit longer than most razors, so that's a lil' bit of it too. The Mitchell's was aces, as ever, and the new/old Culmak seems like it'll make for a real workhorse of a brush - just what I like. :happy088:

Man o' man but I do love a drizzly Saturday morning, and we don't get too many of 'em 'round here, so it's always a good idea to enjoy 'em when they do come 'round. The wife's still in bed, but with the rain and the nice mellow light this morning, plus the sound of the river coming across the heavy air, there's a decidedly positive vibration 'round the ol' cabin this morning. Hope you have an good 'un too.

The Personna Floating Head Injector is the mildest injector I have ever used. It is even milder than the Gillette Injector. I did not get a good shave at all with it. I have used it in the past with several different blades including the Personna 74* and nothing seems to make it shave any closer. Back into the collection only group for this one.

The Omega Pro 49 is setting up well after its first shave. It will be a while before it fully breaks in and holds the lather better but still the wait is worth it.

Soap Commander is a very mild smelling Old Spice like scent. It was not strong enough in my opinion because the natural scent of the soap ingredients could still be smelt clearly. Since I am breaking in a new brush, I will hold off on any opinions of this soap in terms of performance for now.

    Cheers!

    Prep: glycerin soap
    Pre-Shave Oil: Shave Secret
Brush: 20mm Whipped dog set deep
    Scuttle: Georgetown Pottery
    Razor: Fat Boy
    Blade: voskhod
Lather: Cella w/TOBS Almond & Glycerin
    Post: Alum sprayed on
    Witch Hazel: Generic unscented
    A/S: Stirling Sharp Dressed Man
Balm: Avon Musk Marine After Shave Conditioner

I pulled out a fat boy today and had a nice shave with it. Frankly, I don't understand why these are selling for such a high price.

Cella always makes a good base for an uber-lather.

SoTD, Sat, Nov. 22, or traveling Yuma, first impressions.
Music- De La Soul, De La Soul is dead
    Water- soap hot/shave cold
    Soap- Tweex
    Mug- Golden Knight
Brush- vintage brass boar, unknown manufacturer
    Razor- Yuma
    Blade- Derby
    Rinse- Thayers lavender
    Aftershave-Seaforth scotch leather
    Lotion- score
    Cologne- Grey Flannel

    So, it arrived, the fabled Yuma razor. For those of you who have not seen the original thread, this is one of two travelling boxes. Both contain a Yuma razor, a selection of blades, and some great smelling hand made soap. My box was waiting for me when I got home from work. Thus, the adventure begins! As today is the first shave day in a projected week long review process, I just wanted to establish a minimum baseline. So I used a trusty, quite neutral soap, a blade which works perfectly for me in most cases, and decided that for today, not to go for BBS. I set my goal as DFS. I decided to do this to a) get maximum regrowth for testing tomorrow and b) to test its efficacy in a one pass shave. For now, I didn't want to mask mechanical function with technique. I wanted to see exactly how this razor performed, and therefore kept today at a rigid level of control. So, my initial thoughts;
The Yuma is cheap. It looks cheap. The metal is some kind of low grade alloy. It appears blueish... like hardware, a galvanized steel bolt maybe. It is actually a sort of cool effect... cheapened only slightly by the fact that it has very soft detail. It looks like it was made using sand casting. The bright side, is that the geometry is good. The blade sits evenly, the parts assemble well, and it actually feels pretty good in the hand. The blade gap was a bit worrying at first, as it looked a lot like the cheap Bulgarian razor I had a not-so-good morning with a couple days ago. But, nothing for it but to try!
Bottom line, it went very well. Due to the limited nature of the shave, I am going to refrain from any conclusions about the razor until I get another shave or two in on it. But for now my feelings on the Yuma are positive. I am looking forward to using it again tomorrow. Today I was a bit pressed for time, in fact I skipped breakfast in order to give myself an extra 30 min for shaving. I will provide more detail photos, and break down the box contents tomorrow.

Secret Santa sent me one of those razors...I will be trying it. I will definitely compare notes. I have zero experience with SE/injectors. Last week, I had no injectors....but after Secret Santa, my Dad, and a recent lot of razors I bought...I now have four, but I am still in the middle of working with my 3pc DE. I am starting to see how this hobby takes on a life of its own!

Brush: Fuller Amber Badger 1920s -1940s
    Mug: VDH Black

    Blade: Feather (1)
Post shave: Thayers Cucumber WH, Jack Black balm, Old Spice Lime original Shulton cologne Frosted Glass 1960s

I really like this old brush, nice and soft with the original knot. So I whipped up the Barber Shop, nice scent, in my VDH mug. WTG XTG on my face an neck on 5 ATG on my neck on 3. My FB is a dream, and it's built like a tank, but with its short thick handle is very easy to maneuver. Using it set on 3 on the second pass on my neck and for a little buffing on my scar area gave me a BBS. And finish with that vintage OS Lime. Time for some football, go Bama!

    C.O. Bigelow w/4 drops glycerine

Cold splash, cold towel, witch hazel, Skin MD, TSD AS Milk - Old Spice Type
    W/X/A, touch ups

I was 0-6 verses SEs going into this morning; now I'm 0-7. I thought this shave would be different. It's a nice, solid razor. I got my best shave ever on the midline of my neck (chin to Adam's Apple). I had some nicks and weepers, but everything looked pretty good in the mirror. However, the lighting in my bathroom is terrible. When I got out to my Blazer and could check out my neck in the mirror, it was red north, south, east, and west. I'll probably have to skip tomorrow. At least that'll give the LOLs (Little Old Ladies) at church something to talk about. ("It's bad enough he doesn't wear a tie or jacket! Now he's not shaving!")

Ended up not taking a day off from shaving.

    Prep: warm wash
    Lather: Old Spice cream
    Brush: Omega 10066
    Razor: Weber PH
    Blade: Persona (2)
    Post: Old Spice aftershave

I shaved my head and face today. 2 passes on the scalp and 3 on the face using one small dollop of the Old Spice cream and I had enough lather to do least one more pass but didn't need it. The Weber is a fantastic razor. Smooth and burn free shave today.
