Tuesday morning - Prep - Noxzema & hot towel Lather - Mitchell's Wool Fat & suribachi Brush - Culmak SM2 w/ 24mm Omega boar @ 47mm Razor - JBF Champlin 5/8 2 pass Warm water rinse & cold water splash Alum block & Witch-hazel AS Cool & clear again this morning, 16ºF/-9ºC. Lots of sun and hopefully near 60ºF/15ºC by this afternoon. An excellent shave this morning with the smaller of the two Champlins. The Mitchell's & re-knotted Culmak where great too. Have a good 'un folks.
I bought those bottles from a local Cost Plus World Market. Sadly they discontinued carrying them. They are available online but to get for same price I paid I would have to buy 18 of them (which I am leaning towards). You can buy them 1 at a time from amazon but for 3times the cost.

Shave of the Day "My Great-Grandpa's Razor Edition" Prep: Hot towel, Somerset's Preshave Oil Razor: Gillette Super Speed Flare Tip (A-3) Blade: Iridium Super Brush: New Forest 2204 High Mountain Badger Soap: Arko pressed into a mug Shave: 4 passes, WTG, XTG, ATG + Cleanup Post: Thayer's Witch Hazel, Clubman Virgin Island Bay Rum I used my great grandpa's flare tip for this shave, my grandma also used it to shave her legs for a long time. Kind of cool. The Iridium blade is amazing. Super sharp and smooth, wish they still made these. At least I have 9 more. The Clubman bay rum is simply fantastic. Must try if you haven't. Isn't overpowering like some and isn't like napalm liquid fire on your face either. Nice clovey sweet smell with a good amount of burn.
25 November Shave The Omega Pro 49 is coming into fine fashion and this time worked up a good lather with the Soap Commander since it is the fourth use of the brush. The fragrance of Soap Commander was somewhat dismal. I could barely, and I mean barely detect a note of an Old Spice type scent which was totally overwhelmed by the smell of Shea Butter. I can easily discern what an Old Spice type should smell like easily without any references and this soap does not have it. Unless this is a bad soap batch, I would not recommend this soap based on the hopes of receiving an Old Spice smell. What my nose received was more like Old Shea Stadium smell. I have a couple of other Old Spice equivalent soaps that are much better at the scent and Mama Bears version is a slightly better latherer in my opinion. I realize that Soap Commander is the soap du jour, and if you enjoy it more power to you, but it is not for me, at least not in this configuration. Maybe with additional scent it might be a better experience, but I may experiment with it some other time. The Short Handled SA with the Big Ben behaved flawlessly. Two pass BBS. The long since discontinued Avon Spicy is a very close approximation of the Old Spice scent. That helped to bring back the Old Spice vibe in the morning. All in all a good shave but I was expecting much better.
