Here are the results from the three razors I started in this thread Click Here. I started with these blades. All the scales were damaged or falling apart. The Wostenholm was in the best shape, the wedge needed help. Finished; from top to bottom: Wade & Butcher 8/8 wedge; Turner & Co. 7/8, Wostenholm 7/8 Wade & Butcher Wedge; honey horn scales; brass pins & domed brass washers; bone wedge. The honey horn is quite translucent. I failed to capture this in these shots. Turner & Co. Suffolk Works 7/8; black horn, brass pins & domed washers; original lead wedge Wostenholm 'Pipe' 7/8; feathered black horn, stainless pins & brass washer; black horn wedge Next step is to get these razors honed!
They all look great Kevin. Congratulations! I especially like the domed effect you're getting on those stacked washers. Are you using a dapping block and flat washers or are those domed washers? Keep up the great work!
Thanks, Chris! Those are actually domed, not stacked washers. I've corrected my initial description in the first post.
Well folks looks like Kevin is back in the saddle and producing shaver art once again...Excellent job dude!
What a difference you made in these razors? Are they yours? They are larger than the ones you usually like. This song came to mind when I saw them.
I picked up two of them on ebay a while back; the 3rd at an antique store last march. I've not shaved with any yet—I hope to get them honed in the next few days—so I have no impressions yet. They are considerably larger than most of my 5/8-6/8 blades. I may wind up selling the lot as I've many more razors than I need. But I'd like to 'road-test' them first.
I've honed two so far and had some real quality shaves with both the W&B wedge and the Wostenholm. Both took brilliantly keen edges (although the wedge was challenging). The Wostenholm (bottom pic) has found a place in my own 'stash' for personal use.
The last one to hit the hones—the Turner & Sons Suffolk Works 'For Barber's Use.' I had some 'issues' with the scales twisting a bit that required some alignment-fixing before I could sharpen this blade. It did take a very keen edge and provided a decent shave!
