I don't know what it is about the 1912 and Shovelhead razors but I can't stay away from them. I try, I look, I drool and I laugh at some of the absurd prices they are being auctioned for. Thankfully I won't pay over $20 for one including shipping. Well I saw this one listed for $25 plus shipping on a BIN or BO listing. I fell in LOVE with the wooden box although it was kind of drab and the razor needed a cleaning. but I took a chance on it and submitted my bid a little higher than I normally go, not expecting for it to be accepted but much to my surprise it was. So here it is post cleaning with Amish Wood Milk on the box and some Scrubbing Bubbles on the razor itself. Thank you for looking and sharing my obsession.
Wow... it looks so different in a wooden box! Congratulations. The box alone is worth the price you paid for everything.
That's a beautiful set! It was known as The Conqueror and sold for $1 in the mid 1920's, which is about $13.50 in today's dollars.
I think my den is getting a little biased because I found four more of them that I forgot I had. I think I may have to overwhelm the gratuitous safety razor thread with SE's.... Hm.. I may have to make a New Years resolution to use all of my SE razors next year.
Beautiful Gem 1912 razor, wooden case and blade box!! I like that handle ALOT!! I've got 30 SE razors and not one of them(except for a couple of the Bakelite/plastic handles) has lined handle knurling like that one.
I have a lone unboxed Damaskene which I got in a large lot, that has the same handle. That fact also tickled the back of my mind when I made the offer. How often do you get a Damaskene and a SWEET box like that for such a price? Turns out it was a plain 1912 which is fine with me. Alas, my poor naked Damaskene will have to remain homeless until I can find it a proper box at a reasonable price.
I saw a couple of MINT Damaskeenes in boxes on eBay recently. It is amazing to see those almost 100 years old razors in such a great shape.
