What did we learn from our last shaves?

Learned that the Supermax Titanium blades are THE BEST BLADES EVER.

 

Gentlemen, from my last shave...

I learned realized that there a probably more schools of thought on the subject of lather building than on actual razor usage.

 

as good as, say, Arko?

I used Red today because of this post. Similiar reaction. Sometimes nothing beats good old quality mass market Proraso Italian soap. Not kidding about that. Unless we are talking about Arko. It supposedly is from Turkey, but i think it comes from the heavens above to illuminate we the mortal with its lemon scented industrial goodness.

But I really did like Proraso Red very much. I see myself always keeping it around.

 

I feel that way about my GSB. For me, Voskhod is an acceptable replacement. Though I am noticing that I can do fine with almost every blade I try. But GSB and Voskhod just feel "right" and give me the smoothest skin. I read your SOTD...I love shaves like that...where everything just syncs up.

 

From the start of your prep until you're cleared up, don't try to do anything else in between that is not directly related to your shave.
If it can go wrong - IT WILL!!

I also learned that I can get BBS with just two passes, WTG & ATG

I also never want to shave again without using a freezer towel straight after. Brings the blood to the skin and makes me feel fantastic after. Much better than really cold water.

 

That the Schick Hydro-Magic is more than a match for 6 days of proto-beard growth.

 

That my Merkur is getting lonely since getting a vintage Gillette (48 Aristocrat).

 

That Proraso Green is fantastic. Matched with my Omega boar = easy lather

 

That Astra SP may very well be my blade, especially on my head. I got an excellent shave today, and my head shaving technique is also improving. I've only tried about 6 of my 26 on hand blade varieties, and I usually use 2 of the same blade in a row to make sure I can gauge consistency of the blade. So it looks like I'll be using Astra SP's for the next several shaves. I hope they all go as well!

 

That it's good to go out on a limb and take chances with products.

 

I keep saying this until i try the next in the sample pack I got....lol

 

That I can get a surprisingly good shave from a DE89. My favorite is the more aggressive Fatboy at 9. While it is out for repair and cleanup, I've had to make due with my others. I got a closer more comfortable shave from my DE89 this morning than my shimmed NEW the past few.

 

By posting my daily SOTD and reading and liking other members SOTD, I've learned so much about shaving, and products, what to buy, what not to buy. It has saved me not only a lot of money, but a lot space in the landfill plus the long lasting friendships gained.

 

I am thinking that they may be my blade also. I will be doing the 30 day rule after Christmas using them as my blade. - Just not on my head. At least not yet.

 

Proraso Green with boar brush, face lathered to said fantastic state... I did a lot of learning with that soap. I used it every shave in November.

I really like the eucalyptus aspect. Light menthol twist...it's a unique soap IMHO.

 

So many blades, 52 weeks a year...gonna be fun for a while.
