Just received my Morley straight back from Glen at Gem Star Customs, thanks @gssixgun ! Guess what I'm doing next shave? My first straight razor shave ! Hopefully I don't slice my chin off. Lol
Man, that's pretty! I love the pin work, absolutely flawless.... Take your time. Concentrate on the blade-face angle. A light touch does it. Straight down only for the first few shaves.
He actually only did honing and chip repair, the rest is all original. I bought it for ten bucks couple years ago.
Small vintage haul...acquired from a classified here on TSD. Both of these likely destined for replate...I have plans for these razors.
Today's highly anticipated arrival.... No, not the Yuma. I'll post photos of that tomorrow. Here are the before-cleaning (left) and after-cleaning (right) photos of the Barbasol Floating Head I scored. I may end up getting it replated eventually, even though it cleaned up even better than I expected. I just noticed tonight through a lighted jeweler's loupe ($2 from a Chinese eBay seller) that there is some nearly microscopic pitting that has started -- almost invisible to the naked eye -- and so I am considering replating the razor to keep it in top condition for years (decades?) to come. So far, I would have to say this is one of my favorites in the den... And I haven't even shaved with it yet. Hopefully that impression will continue after I put a blade in it.
The closest razor I've tried to the feel of the modern R41. The Barbasol FH is a very good razor I had the pleasure of borrowing from another member.
A most excellent cleanup result! The Barbasol Floating head is one of my top three DE razors I own and I don't see that ever changing - it's a great razor. Congrats!
Big day yesterday. Most of this stuff got purchased last month but had to be put away till yesterday so now I can add it to the den and begin using it. First up is some Grapefruit PSO from Maggard and a glass cruet from a kitchen shop. The box says it's for olive oil and/or vinegars so my homemade PSO (which contains olive oil) qualifies. I just made about 4 ounces of PSO last weekend so it appears the cruet has about an 8 ounce capacity. Next up are some new soaps and a few blades. Barrister & Mann Beaudelaire (very heady scent) , Maggard London Barbershop, TOBS Grapefruit, Derby, and a tin of PPF (on sale). Some hardware: a Semogue boar, a Maggard DE, and a leather travel case A handmade bowl and a hand knit cotton cloth (probably originally meant for dishwashing or bathing but now deemed a shave cloth). These two were a surprise. The wife and I went to an art expo a few weeks back and I purchased a different bowl for shaving so she must have bought these while I was distracted. I'm not much of a photographer so I have to say the bowl looks much better than my photos. The inside surface is rough so it should work very well for lathering. And then some aftershaves and colognes. Finally, something I've wanted for some time that's not exactly shave related but I do intend to use it for buffing up razors. And of course, a nice cake but we ate too much dinner so we'll probably have some tonight.
