Can't really buy into a poll where Arko doesn't make the top 10. Love it/hate it is strong.....but clearly it has a massive fan base and the price/performance ratio has to make it a top contender in any poll of favorites. Just my 2¢ anyway.
I have had dozens of RR soaps. While they all perform greatly, I kept only P160, One X and XXX, because I have other soaps that I prefer (Cella, Valobra, Tabac, MdC, MWF and Proraso). I haven't tried any other English soap/cream but MWF
First, there is no "buying into" the poll or not. It is exactly as popular as the 312 people said it is. That is the reason to do a survey rather than go with one person's opinion. Second, Arko is in the top 10. It was the 9th most popular soap. So, enough others agree with you for it to have earned that spot. If we weighted the results on price per ounce, it would be #1. I wouldn't put it there, but that is why it is a survey and not my personal list
Another one of the great things about this survey, is the number of soaps(110) involved. That helps people see other soaps they otherwise may never have heard of and can now give a try.. YOU are such an enabler ps1160!!
Funny....I would have expected Arko near the top aswell....But what about The all-American Classic Williams Mug Soap? Most shaving forums have their own Williams Sub-Group. Have we gotten so into gourmet soaps that a daily favorite go to like Williams gets lost in the shuffle... Well call me sentimental, but Williams Mug Soap gets my vote....Williams Mug for my Mug everytime....ha,ha...
Yes, my mistake in typing, I meant to say I was surprised Arko wasn't a near the top. I will point out it's completely my prerogative not to buy into the results of a "poll". This was not a scientific measurement, unless of course you are holding back more info on the analysis procedure. If that is the case, then I stand corrected? However, let's just be clear what a poll is before we choose to correct others on their speculation regarding the results of what appears to be a timed survey sample.
I know I'm too late but thought I would give my two cents. My favorite of all time is Chelsea's England Shaving Soap. FYI, the prices are going up after the 1st of the year from 3.99 to 4.99. Not earthshattering but if anyone else likes them thought you might want to know!
Fair enough. You are, of course entitled to your opinion. Upon re-reading them, my comments came across more harshly than I intended. Sorry about that. First, let me say that I was thinking this thread was related to the larger 312 person survey I conducted, rather than the small sample of 30 or so people that came earlier. I have had quite a few people say that the survey is not really valid because "x" soap was not at the top. My point is, the survey's validity has nothing to do with whether it matches your personal preferences or what you, or I, think. It is exactly what people responded, so it is 100% accurate and valid for that population. I am not aware of any larger survey that has been conducted, particularly with solid representation from several different groups and forums. So, my survey is the most representative sample that I am aware of. So, my point boils down to: 312 people's opinion is more representative than 1 person's (mine, yours, or anyone else's). As for the analysis, I provided access to all the data here: https://infogr.am/favorite-soap-survey-dec-2014 I think the miscommunication is from me mistaking this 30-some person sample from this thread with the larger survey. Sorry about that. Hopefully it makes morr sense after seeing the link above. Phil
Any of the soaps in the top 25 provide a great lather. Some are a bit more difficult to get that great lather if you are new to wet shaving or have hard water (e.g. MWF or Mike's). As for moisturizing, I personally would say Cold River Soap Works and B&M are among the better ones on the list.
I will echo those two soaps as being two of the best in the business for moisterizing...B&M and CRSW.
No worries and no offense taken...... Sometimes typing responses really misses the intent and context. It's easy to ruffle feathers when it really wasn't intended to. It's nice to have a forum where we have the grace to be respectful and mindful of our interaction.
