  6. Arriving any day now…I've outgrown my old brush stand (held only five brushes). Room to grow in 2015! :D
I'll need to paint the whole piece (waterproof) & plasti-dip the prongs.

  9. The arrival today:

Maggard MR8 (wow, this thing is heavy!),
5 Big Ben Super Stainless blades,
Sta-Fast brush (travel brush?), and a
Colgate "Handy Grip" Shaving Stick container.

The brush appears to be cropped rather than with natural tips, and is pretty small... Only slightly larger than my AoS mini-badger brush. Anyone know anything about this type of brush? I can't tell if it was made this way to be a travel brush, or cut down. It's very cool-looking, though.

I'd also love to know more about the Colgate container. It says Patent Sept. 4, 1917, Other Patent Pending, so it's obviously from after 1917, but I wonder if anyone can pinpoint an actual manufacture date range from this? It's a metal (tin or copper?) tube lined with a cardboard sleeve that appears original. The cap is a different color (and perhaps a different metal) from the body of the tube.

  10. Funny, so many great things but the one that I am most attracted to is that Colgate tube :)
    Nice score.

  11. Nice score!

I have the same Colgate tin. From what I found they are from 1917-1924. They redesigned the cap in 1924 and updated the patent after that; the pre-1917 version had no patents at all. It looks like the cap might be from the 1924 version – it has threads on the top so it can be screwed back into the tube and act like a handle.

The brush was probably like that, I've seen several other vintage examples with the similar 'flat top' look. Also it looks like cased badger - which is badger on the outside and boar or horse on the inside, which wasn't uncommon back in the day.

  12. I think I want to get one of those old soap stick holders and see if I can jam an Arko stick in there.
    It would...elevate the experience :)
  13. Working on one now....will post shortly...

  14. Dude, what are you? Rich? Hahaha you buy something new everyday
  15. Arko fits it perfectly, smaller sticks like La Toja are too loose.
These Handy Grip tins were meant to be reused and they sold refills for them. The cap is internally threaded so you can twist-on your refill and it holds it in place. No jamming required ;)
  16. Iiinteresting.....

I received my new tin of Beer Soap Brewing Co. Tallow formula. I gave the owner Kevin a suggestion, and this is what he created. He also included a sample of Southern Oud aftershave, which I think smells fantastic. Perfect for the winter weather.

I'm not going to give away the secret that some new soap sample may or may not have been included as well..;)
