Hello. Having switched from the world of plastic disposable equipment only weeks ago I've been scouting various tools and came across this hone. Not sure if this is a common thing but I thought you all might be interested to see it. It looks unused but i'm sure I will put it to work soon.
Pretty cool. Used for the old carbon steel blades. Glad you found us. Be sure to make yourself known on the Newbie thread. and mark your location on the TSD map - instructions here
I would not use them on modern stainless blades but if you have good condition carbon blades it is very useful. Welcome to the Den. We know you'll fit right in. So grab yourself a comfy chair, and give our threads a spin! Burma Shave
Modern (stainless) blades have a slightly different geometry and the blades often have a special coating. Honing these blades takes the coating off and can ruin the edge of the blade. Vintage carbon blades can be rehoned using this hone. Nice catch, @rubio !
Heh... cool hone. My father recently told me he remembers his dad and granddad rubbing their blades inside a glass to hone them. If you have success sharpening a modern blade, please let us know!
