I might have him replate my Fatboy now. Although he has not answered my e-mails. I would just hate to ship the thing out to him and he has no idea why he received it.
Chris is extremely busy with replating, but normally has excellent communications. He also has a regular full-time job. I agree that you need to "discuss" things with him first. Give him another try.
I realize he has a FT job as well and is extremely busy. I do plan on contacting him again fairly soon. He does excellent work and his prices are not that bad. At least for the Nickel which is all I want on my FB, nothing fancy.
Nothing wrong with nickel, its "traditional" and looks nice. I had Chris replate a post-war tech in nickel and it looks great. Good luck.
Did you send the razor to Cap'n Murphy because Chris @ Razor plate does not disassemble them? I assumed that any adjustable would need to be disassembled before plating.
You are correct. Chris does not disassemble razors. He explained to me that he does everything to Gillette specifications and Gillette plated razors after they were assembled. Cap'n Murphy took it apart, cleaned the parts of whatever "gunk" there was and then sent it to Chris. I had an Executive done earlier, but in reverse order. I sent it to Chris for plating (24 kt gold). While there, Chris noticed that there were some mechanical issues that I had not noticed. Chris suggested sending it to Cap'n Murphy, which I did, and he corrected the issues. So I now have my new, beautiful 1958 Fat Boy, plated by Chris and disassembled and cleaned by Cap'n Murphy and I have this beautiful 1958 Executive, plated by Chris and disassembled by Cap'n Murphy.
Thanks very much. I tried to emulate the black beauty or the black handle super speed. Here's another pic I'm using for my SOTD - going to use this baby Saturday!
I agree, Capn Murphy is awesome to deal with. I had him work his magic on my fatboy that had a stuck adjuster ring. He kept in touch with me every step of the way. My only regret is I didn't have it sent off to replate it. He did give me that option. Soon I will be taking that step.
