SoTD for Saturday, January 17, or Single Edge celebration day 4, Featherweight fun! Pre- Clove Balsam PSO Soap- vintage Century Brush- Ever Ready w/ new synthetic knot (22/50) Razor- Gem Featherweight Blade- Gem carbon Rinse- Osage Aftershave- vintage Seaforth Lotion- Kiehl's Cologne- vintage Tonga Continuing my SE-lebration (punny!), today the Gem Featherweight is on the menu. I do not have every variation yet, but the few I do have are pictured; gold, nickel, gold with metal tip and brown handled nickel. The brown handled also sports the variant cap, which is essentially the same as the Heavy Flat Top (aka G Bar). I am not 100% sure, but I think the brown handle is the same deep olive color of some Treet razors. I will have to remind myself to compare. The shave itself went ok. I tried a couple different blades before I went back to old trusty Gem carbon. The lightweight razor really wasn't doing me any favors. I gave up trying for BBS on my neck after 4 passes. I was starting to feel a bit raw, and the goal was looking more and more pipe dreamy by the minute. Know when to say when. Other than that area, it was a solid three pass BBS. The vintage Century soap lathered great, as most old soaps do. I don't know why, but I have yet to find a new soap that works as well as old Colgate or Williams. Don't get me wrong, I am sure they are out there, I just don't have any. Also, passage of decades seems to completely rob soap of any fragrance. It is sort of unique using a quality soap that is completely inert scent wise. This is the second day for my freshly knotted Ever Ready. I finally got the lettering repainted last night and it looks great. Now I can officially call it done. I can't say enough good things about these synthetic knots. I like my few badgers, and I love my boars, but for me and my technique, the new synthetics are practically tailor made. I have one more knot to find a host for, then I need to order a few more. I topped the shave off with some vintage cologne I found when I went on my failed antique store razor hunt. Although no razors were found, I picked up several vintage colognes and aftershaves. This one is called Tonga and was made by Amway. Imagine a somewhat richer Pinaud Clubman... maybe just a touch sweeter, and you have a pretty good idea of the scent. The kind of thing that is right up my vintage loving alley. Hope you enjoyed your daily! I will return with more Single Edge fandom tomorrow.
Everyone should try these fine french soaps: Martin De Candre Le Pere Lucien Provence Sante Pre De Provence L'Occitane Cade They are all amazing. I doubt that anyone could not like at least a single one of these.
That's it! I have been on the fence about ordering some La Pere Lucien. I am going to go do it right now. Edit: Done!
SOTD Saturday 1-17-2015 FaTip/Weber Wave Crystal Blade Noxema Salter's Wild Rose SC GP Scuttle Omega Boar Dickinson's WH GB Body Lotion Rose of Bulgaria ASL Using the FaTip Weber Wave Combo this morning as I was inspired by Guy's recent posts. Excellent balance with this combo and everything is coming up Roses. I have to use up the last of this Salter's as I've had it forever and it's becoming more of a croap than a shave cream lately. Still has the great scent and performance when it's lathered with warm water though. Have a great weekend Gentlemen! Go Hawk's! :rah:

SOTD for January 17, 2015 This is the 16th day of my 30-day adventure to improve my shaving skills using the Mongoose. Preshave consisted of a warm shower and face wash using Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser. I used my Kent BK4 brush and face lathered using MWF and a few drops of glycerin. After the adventure, I'm going to put my new Rudy Vey two-band silvertip (also shown in the photo) into daily service. This was the sixth shave on the Feather Pro blade on a two-pass plus touch-up shave. It was one of the best shaves so far with the Mongoose. I finished with alum, Thayer's Lavender Witch Hazel, and unrefined shea butter. I hope everyone has a great day! My Bride and I have tickets to our local dinner theater tonight!
@wristwatchb That's a nice looking Rudy Vey Brush you have there. I just got my brush in from him and am eagerly awaiting the end of these 30 days so I can give it a try.
Thanks Clint! I appreciate the compliment on the brush. It is a 2014 limited edition, and Rudy was kind enough to give me number 15 in the series in honor of my dad. He was born in 1915. I'm looking forward to using it. Please post a photo of your brush when you can!
