Nice! I'm very interested to read you guys reviews of this razor. I started with a Weishie 9603* , and I still like it, although I'm still a newb and have only tried it and the 34C so far. * I bought the 9603-f from Amazon, mostly because it came with 2 varieties of blades (Dorco & YingJiLi) whereas the other versions only came with one pack. I'm not sure of the difference between the f version and the g version.
Now I want to state that the member who modified these razors is no longer doing them as far as I know. Please do not PM him asking to modify razors. If the member wants to discuss these, he will do so of his choosing, but please let it be of his own choosing. Thanks! Back in 2011, long before we saw anyone else doing these elsewhere, we had a member who used John Norrell MOLY RESIN™ to produce hard coatings that had an exceptionally low rate of friction against items. The thread is here, but again it is from 2011. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/got-poor-tired-razors-i-need-help-with-project.23134/ I hope this answers some of your questions.
@Justin Linker Before I say yes to this razor tour, ics: What is an MTO? (seems funny to ask, now that I've survived the Yuma..........)
The letter after 9306 are there to notate the plating type. Here's all 7 9306's and their plating. http://www.wd.com.cn/en/main.asp?alias=Products&pageNum=1
Cool, thanks for that Mr. Shaverman. It seems the 'f' and 'g' versions are both chromium. I wonder of there is some other difference between the two. At any rate, its not a bad little razor, and about half the price of the MTO.
They're not actually both the same type of chrome. At least not any more than A is coated in Kim, or that the other one is plated with the JRR Tolkien created rare Middle Earth elfen metal of Mithril. Here's a more accurate list and I don't hink it's 100% accurate or complete. Weishi seems to have tried a lot variations with the 9306 and I wouldn't be surprised if there were other ones not listed here. I did find out that the plastic Weishi 9306 is actually modeled as 2008-T. A- Gold B- Matte Gold C- Gun Metal D- Matte Gold & Silver E- Matte Chrome F- Chrome G- Aluminum - Case H- Aluminum - Blister Pack I- Antique Bronze
My first DE was the VDH, from Walmart for around $18.00. I had no idea when I bought it how quickly I would convert. I used it exclusively for a couple of weeks before getting my EJ89, quickly followed by the Superspeed, the next Superspeed, the Aristocrat and several assorted others. I am using the VDH as my head razor. I shave my head twice a week and tried my '59 superspeed last week for one of them. I prefer the VDH for that as the Gillette didn't seem to fit my hand for all of the positions I need when performing a head shave. Most days I shave with either the EJ89 or my '59 SS, rotating in my '47 SS and Aristocrat, but only the VDH touches my head. Quality little razor and I think the perception is bad simply because of where/how it's sold. The MTO has the same issue being an "as seen on TV" product. That tagline usually means total junk. Doesn't seem to be the case this time.
I was really hoping it was mithril, If I remember right it is shinier, lighter, and stronger than steel.
