Shave 17 of 30 day BSG Shower - Hot Shower Prep - Warm Water Splash/Cornhuskers Lotion Razor - Parker 99R Blade - Wilkinson Swords Classic Brush - Parker Rosewood Boar Brush Soap - Proraso Eucalyptus and Menthol Soap Post - Cold Water Rinse/Clubman/Real Shaving Co Soothing Balm Another nice shave tonight not BBS but definite DFS. Didnt chase the baby tonight. I did 2 passes XTG, and ATG, only one touchup area. Only 3 days left for my 30 days. Its been a learning experience for sure and I'm glad I did it. You all have been so helpful to me. Thank you all!!!
I'm looking forward to seeing how some of them perform. Going to push the last Voskhod of the 30 days through 4 days too which I think it will handle well.
This is Day 27 of 30. Today, after reading a comment, on one of the SE posts, I worked with a little more "aggressive" blade angle. The poster suggested that the clog pruf shaved most efficiently with the handle basically parallel to the face, with the tip of the handle pointing to the floor. I worked on this today, and I must say, my shave is closer, with no more irritation than ususal, and I would say that it is a solid DFS+. Not bad from a blade used for almost 4 weeks!
1/27/2015 30 Day - Shave # 27 Prep - Hot Shower Razor - Mongoose Satin B2 Blade - Kai Mild (2) Brush - Rubberset 400 with WSP HMW Lather - Soap Commander Confidence Post - Witch Hazel and CC Bay Rum AS Another very nice work day 3 pass shave with touch ups around my chin. Did have one small weeper this morning. In the home stretch now and looking forward to rotating soaps and brushes while I continue testing blade options for the Goose.
1/27/15 - BSG Day 27 Prep - Hot Shower, towel soak Brush - Omega 48 Soap - C.O. Bigelow Razor - Edwin Jagger 89l Blade - Voskhod (1) Post - RazoRock Alum Stick & Proraso A couple of substitutions getting ready for blade trials. The EJ89l comes in along with C.O. Bigelow. This will be my setup through all 10 blades, well 11 counting the Voskhod today. I'll be using the Voskhod as my comparison blade. The EJ performed well, a bit milder than the Aristocrat but still got a 3 pass DFS with no problems. Just had to slow down a bit and readjust angle from the TTO style. The new Voskhod was smooth and did it's job well. Changed up my avatar when I realized that out of the 11 blades I'll be using 8 of them are Russian. The others are Indian (2) and Japanese. I may have to switch to a vodka splash in place of my usual aftershave choices. Or maybe a vodka shot. Yeah, that's it.
Day 24 of 30 (late post with report) 30 DAY RULE with a Slim J2 Gillette Slim Adjustable Kroger Israeli Personna VDH Kit Badger TSD Lanolin Shave Stick - Barber Shoppe Scent Today's Great Cheap AS™ is TSD Iced Subzero AS Splash Was a bit busy yesterday and could not get a post up. Did a quick two-pass just to stay in the game. Not a lot to update other than I really love the TSD AS! Great skincare, long lasting, and priced right! Happy Tuesday!
I like it! Voskhod Comrades...nice. Seven shaves on a Voskhod is what I got. The blade was still fine, I just changed it anyway. 4 should be easy...
So this Noxzema just isn't for me. I've tried it twice and I just don't like how it leaves my skin feeling so I thought I'd give it away. Question is should I open this up to the entire den or do a giveaway for those participating in this thread.
01/27 – Day 27 of the 30 Day Rule - Shave #23 with the Weishi Objective: Survive a month using low end entry level products. Growth: 1 day Prep: Shower; Corn Huskers Lotion Lather: Arko – Face lathered Brush: Escali Badger Razor: Weishi 9306/Microtouch One Blade: Derby Extra (4) Post: Alum; Nivia Sensitive Post Shave Balm Today’s Results: 2 pass XTG/ATG. I am trying to ride this blade to the end of the challenge since there’s only two shaves left for me. The blade tugged less today than yesterday… odd. No weepers and another CCS.
Day 22 Prep: Hot shower Brush: Van Der Hagen (the one from the premium kit) Soap: Van Der Hagen Luxury Blade: Hill Country (rebranded Personna) Razor: Edwin Jagger DE89 Post: Nivea, Old Spice Nothing to say about this shave besides something I just now noticed. I focus so much shaving my head and when I get to shaving my face it's just like...meh I need to change that and put the same effort into it
Day 28, and I used the same more aggressive blade angle, and ended up with a shave bordering on BBS, 3 pass, N-S, XTG, S-N, and no touch ups. I believe that because I am using a more aggressive blade angle, I am shaving slower, and allowing the blade to do its job. Not bad for the 28th day on one GEM SS Teflon.
Day 25 of 30 (Tuesday Evening) 30 DAY RULE with a Slim J2 Gillette Slim Adjustable Kroger Israeli Personna VDH Kit Badger TSD Lanolin Shave Stick - Barber Shoppe Scent Today's Great Cheap AS™ is Osage Rub! Really nice two pass...freezing cold Osage to relax after a long day... Have a Happy Wednesday!
Any way you like! Congrats on 28 days on one blade! Amazing! It seems like the blade angle has been a breakthrough.
1/28/2015 30 Day - Shave # 28 Prep - Hot Shower Razor - Mongoose Satin B2 Blade - Kai Mild (3) Brush - Rubberset 400 with WSP HMW Lather - Soap Commander Confidence Post - Witch Hazel , Dove Post Shave Balm and CC Sandalwood AS Very good 3 pass shave this morning. Almost caught the baby. Looking forward to trying out some different blades next week.
BSG Day 28 I have not fallen off the wagon... To busy to post the last bit. ATT S1 Kronos Rapira PL Plisson Cade soap & balm Been getting two pass DFS with minor touch ups. I don't think I can get BBS with two passes alone. I'm cool with that. Only two more shaves!!!
January 28th SOTD (Shave 19 of the challenge) Prep: Hot shower Razor & Blade: '63 Gillette Slim and Gillette Platinum Two Day's growth First shave on this blade, Stroped 30 times per edge Setting 7 on two passes plus buffing Brush & Bowl: Semogue 1460 brush and soup bowl Soap: Maggard Orange Menthol Post Shave: Cold water rinse, alum block, Maggard Orange Menthol aftershave I almosts switched blades today, but I didn't. One more shave after this one and I can say I did it. I think the biggest thing I have figured out is that part of what I love with wet shaving is tinkering with the set up all the time. I dialed it back to a 7, as the higher settings give more irritaion than I like, even if it doesn't come on until later in the day. I also seem to get more ingrown hairs on my neck with the higher settings. NS and SN, plus buffing. Was a little over confident on the buffing, and got a nick and some irritation. Overall, just under a DFS. One thing I would like to see if anyone wants to share, is specificly what everyone has learned from the challenge as a closing post in this thread for them. I will do one this weekend. I will be curious to see what similarities and differences there are.
