Test Depth Thursday I won a PIF from The Shave Market and Reef Point soaps, and I chose Test Depth because the scent description is interesting and unique. I was rewarded with an amazing classy cologne type scent with a complex mixture of citrus, woody and aqua notes. I'm not very good at describing scents, but I know this is a winner. The lather monster easily built yogurt style thick and protective goodness. Der Vorschlaghammer comfortably destroyed my stubble and I finished with PAA Gondolier cologne. These scents compliment each other nicely. The post shave feel is very moisturized and soft. Reef Point soaps are legit! 02/05/15 February Focus on Blades Prep - Hot Shower Razor - Mongoose Satin B2 Blade – Feather Pro (5) Brush – Rudy Vey Rover Briar with Shavemac Finest 26mm/52mm Lather – MdC Post - Witch Hazel and Dove AS Balm Excellent 3 pass shave this morning. While remaining extremely sharp, the blade has smoothed out. In fact it feels sharper after 5 shaves than the Kai Mild Blade did at the start. Negative of this is a couple of small weepers that were my fault. I plan on finishing up this week with this blade and then moving onto another for next week.

SOTD February 5, 2015 Face and head shave Prep: Hot shower. Axe Shield Face Wash Razor: RazoRock Stealth Slant Blade: Personna Lab Blue Brush: Custom 22/52mm Silvertip by KonigShaveDesigns Lather: Klar Kabinett Post: Alum.Thayers Lavender WH. Aftershave: Floid Black Klar and Dusy perform, smell, look the same IMO. Wonderful last two shaves! The only difference I can tell is the Dusy had a fresher feel to touch, when I was slicing the stick it was pliable. My Klar is probably much older stock, which doesn't take anything way from the way Klar performed. Go out and get it!
PSO: Palmer's oil lather: DIY IdC (make your own >here<) brush: Semogue 1250 blade: Astra SP (1) razor: Muhle R41 2013 finish: HolyRollah's awesome DIY balm >here< My Muhle R41 head showed up yesterday so I had to take it for a spin this morning. I know that the "real" R41 is the 2011 head, but that deal fell apart and I went ahead with the 2013. Fresh off of yesterday's shave with a FaTip Grande, I was ready to unleash the R41 for the world title round of Battle of The Beasts. Let me start by saying that the R41 is a good shaver. However, I didn't find it near as finicky to handle as the FaTip and slightly less aggressive. I am not convinced that the 2013 head deserves its wild animal reputation... more like a guard dog that cannot be fully trusted. It certainly has capacity to bite, but the inclination to bite depends largely on how it is handled. I found the handling a little bit different and didn't quite get it down on this maiden voyage. The razor is plenty efficient, so the spots I kept missing had to be my technique. I eventually caught the baby, but fostered a little weeper patch plus a couple of other free range weepers. Nothing serious. I was also a bit red-faced at the end. Fortunately, no pain from it. Given the redness, I think a big part of avoiding pain (even the "tightness" of yesterday's FaTip shave) was the liberal use of Palmer's as a PSO plus my implementation of @HolyRollah 's excellent DIY balm. Since I was a little nervous about the redness, I applied a bit more balm than usual. Yes, I was a bit shiny, as Kevin warns, but three hours later my face feels just fine (and still protected). Today's takeaways: 1) liberal use of Palmer's is now a "thing" for me. It may or may not carry over to other PSOs. and 2) the R41 is likely a keeper, but I need some practice before it is "eating out of my hand" (rather than eating my face off!). .
I used my PDP mixed with Cella and VDH Glycerin again today for a wonderfully close and comfortable shave. This combination has eliminated the question of whether or not PDP will stay in my rotation. 3 passes and I feel extremely smooth. I am still using blades only two times. It has made for decidedly smoother shaves. PDP Mix Rapira Platinum Lux Slim Adjustable
