I made a statement earlier today that RAD occurred at between 8 and 12 razors. My reasoning was if you had a razor for every day of the week or every month of the year you were "covered". Trade, sell and duplicate aside what would your selections be? Here are mine... 1. Gillette FatBoy (a must have) 2. Gillette Adjustable (the slim is a needed alternative to the FB) 3. Gillette new open comb (cool old blade) 4. bluebeards revenge scimitar safety razor (probably the best razor I have ever shaved with plus love the skull and Xbones. ) 5. gillette super speed (just an awesome razor) 6. gillette senator (TTO open comb? Another BIG Awesome) 7. Lol, have not found it Yet. (But that's ok.) So what do you think? What are your few "must haves"?
That's a good list. I would add a Schick Krona to that list. There is also a whole line of injector and SE razors I could add to it. I will let others contribute.
In no particular order: 1. Gillette Black Beauty Short Handle 2. Merkur Progress 3. Schick Adjustable Injector 4. Gillette Ball-end Tech 5. Gillette '5os SuperSpeed 6. Merkur 39C Sledgehammer (a kitten really) 7. Schick E type Injector
Me I would be happy with a Fatboy, Slim, Executive, OC Aristocrat, Red Tip Superspeed, Pre-war Tech and a Full Brass De89. To bad the Full brass De89 is not real.
I've sold all of mine with the exception of the following: • Gillette Tech (my son uses it) • Muhle R41 (both 2011 & 2013 models) • Cadet (won in a PIF)
Real? They have to be real? Can't play. Got no intention of even contemplating narrowing down to 8-12 razors.
GEM/Ever-Ready/Star 1912 Ever-Ready 1914 Ever-Ready Streamline GEM Micromatic Schick injector Gillette Trac II
For me, at present... 1 Super Speed or variant thereof (the earlier, the better...Ranger, the 1st post-war SS or maybe the '58 TV flare tip...tough call, they all have their strengths) 1 adjustable DE (either the long or short Black Beauty...Slim in 2nd place) 1 open comb DE (LC New) 1 SE (G-Bar) 1 injector (Schick Hydro-Magic...might be the Pal Adjustable if not for unpredictable QC issues) 1 Rolls (as near mint as possible all the way around) 1 Trac II compatible stick, preferably brass, not plastic That just happens to pan out to seven, but I don't have a weekly rotation. I grab a razor based on mood or how late to work I'm going to be.
My happy few...hummm FatBoy NEW Open Comb Open Comb New Open Comb with long handle - my current favorite Tuckaway Auto Strop
I'm almost happy with what I've got (I've got a few more): Gillette Slim Gillette Tech Valet Autostrop Gem OCMM Star 1912 Wilkinson Sword Empire Need: bakelite Shake Sharp
My must haves is the ones I have Hehe! Muhle r89 Gem micromatic open comb Gillette slim Merkur 37c Some day I will have a Fat boy I have 3 different schicks, a Gillette tech and a Super speed black tip. But I haven't tried those yet.
I haven't delved far into vintage yet but am pretty happy with my coverage of the aggressiveness scale so far. I could get by with the 39c and an assortment of blades. 1. Edwin Jagger DE89 2. ReMie 3. Schick Injector M adjustable 4. Merkur 39c 5. RazoRock Jaws 6. Muhle R41 (2013)
My top three: Standard Razor (black); Schick R Injector; heavy handled Trac II. Runner ups: Flair Tip; Slim.
Must haves? Hmmm...let's see. Gillette Rocket HD (British) Gillette Red Tip Gillette Aristocrat Jr. (British) Gillette Ranger Tech GEM Clog Pruf GEM Damaskeene Any of the Gillette 3 piece incarnations.
For me so far... Razorock Jaws Maggard MR8 My 1970 Gillette Black Beauty Super Adjustable(for myself and my girlfriend.) I have a Gillette Old Type Gillette New LC Gillette Tech but I never use those. I didn't like the New, the Tech is too mild, and the OT shaves great but feels rough with a smooth blade.
