Prep: Hot shower with Nivea Face Wash with menthol, home made PSO
Razor: Merkur 37C, AJ Jordan The Celebrated Hollow Ground straight razor
    Blade: Astra SP (2)
    Brush: Turkish #6
    Soap: Tabac
After: Home made ASB, Tabac after shave
    Cologne: Tabac EDC

Brrrrr, It was -2 degrees this morning. The #6 whipped up the Tabac into a thick lather. The 37C was happy to have the dust knocked off and to be put into use again. The 37c and the Jordan did a good job. The Tabac AS provided protection and the Tabac EDC will have me smelling good all day. All in all a Darn Fine Shave +.

    Have a blessed day!

Early morning shave today —as I was unable to shave last night.
3-pass SPIKE 'Special' shave using MWF, generously applied with the old restored Rubberset boar.
It's been a while since I shave in the a.m. so having enough coffee is critical for me before dragging a blade across my face in the pre-dawn hours.
    Have a blessed Thursday, all!

Today is the 70th anniversary of the start of the Battle of Iwo Jima. We need to thank all those who served before, during, and after. They ensure our freedom.

I stopped after my first pass this morning and rinsed my face off. The shave I had at that point was on par with many of the shaves I had while using canned goo and a disposable cartridge. 3 passes and excellent shave this morning.

Thursday, February 19, 2015 - "Anything to avoid working" shave
    Cold water shave
    Whipped Dog Synthetic
    C. O. Bigelow + 4 drops glycerine
    '69 Black Beauty (7, 6, 6) w/Gillette 7 O'clock SP (3)
Cold splash, alum, Nivea Men Sensitive Cooling Post Shave Balm, TSD AS Milk
    W/X/A, touch ups

I won't evaluate the shave; my skin has to "rest" before I can do that. But several people on here have expressed interest in the Nivea Men Sensitive Cooling Post Shave Balm. I found it at Walmart yesterday, and used it today. Let me first state, that I have never liked Nivea products; I've always thought they were cheap and didn't provide any protection or relief. This changed a few weeks ago when I started using their Sensitive Post Shave Balm. I stated on another thread that it works as well as, or better than, the $35 bottle of Lab Series Post Shave Balm sitting in my cabinet. The SCPSB works just as well, and, unlike every other major brand "cooling" balm that you can find at your local drug store, this one provides what it promises: a mild, but noticeable, cooling sensation. It's not Osage Rub, or 444, or TSD Iced Sub Zero Aftershave Milk, but it's noticeable. If you've never tried mentholated products before, this would be a good one to start with. And, if you don't like it, you can always send what's left to me. :)

Addendum: I feel no pain at all while shaving ... no burning, scraping, pulling, etc. Looking straight into my mirror, in the poor light of my bathroom, my recent shaves have looked fantastic. But I've been fooling myself. I started taking pictures of my neck yesterday with my phone, and they tell a different story. My neck was very red and irritated both days. Yesterday there was visible, random stubble. (Stubble looks terrible on someone with a sparse beard.) I was so depressed I went out and bought a four-pack of Fusion Proglide cartridges.

Guy, the scent in the bottle to my nose is almost tropical at first, but quickly moves more into the classic smokey 'cedar wood' once applied. Distinctly masculine without any 'barber shop' vibe—but more along the lines of a man's cologne. Some have referenced 'Creed' but not being familiar with that cologne, I can't verify the similarity. I do enjoy the Platinum, and more importantly, so does my wife.

Prep: Hot shower, Neutrogena Deep Cleaning Gentle Scrub, TSD Jasmine Sambac preshave balm
    Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger
    Soap: Stirling Bay Rum
    Razor: Merkur 41c 1904 OC
    Blade: Bolzano Superinox (2)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (4, 5)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma alum, Dickinson's WH, Captain's Choice Cat o' Nine Tails AS splash
Cologne: Gigember Estragone by Dr. Vranjes

I could not get the lather working correctly today with the Stirling, no matter what I tried; it just alternated between too watery and too thick, without ever building up as I'd want. As a result, I stopped after 2 passes, with a DFS, and my face feels too tight and stretched, even after rinsing.

Had a really great shave today. The Pils and the Sputnik blade are a great combination. Although yesterday shave was using 2 day old Sputnik blade and that was slightly smoother. So the blade gets better with time.

Hot face wash with Dove Cucumber soap. Kept my face wet while I whipped up the Castle in my Old Spice mug. Taking my time, WTG XTG on my face an neck on 5 ATG on my neck on 3. Two passes and a great shave. Pat dry and then some Thayers Cucumber WH, felt good. After cleaning up and a shower, some more WH and JB. OS to finish off a great shave.
