I'm looking to get into Straight Razor shaving, I just don't have the change (hundred bucks) to get started. I'm already a d/e wet shaver so I have the brush, creams and an assortment of soaps. Anyone here got one they don't use anymore perhaps a starter like a 5/8 or something they would like to send me ? Thanks hope I don't sound like a beggar lol Thanks guys. Tdub

Welcome to TSD. You might want to take a look at Larry Andro at Whipped Dog Shaving. He does a large business in functional razors that are not show stoppers in looks but are high performers.

    http://whippeddog.com/products/view/sight-unseen-flawed-razor

    Price: $28.00

    Description:

These razors are fully functioning straight razors, fully as functional as more expensive razors sold here. However, they have flaws that don't affect the shave, but do require a discounted price. Flaws can include such things as scratched or warped scales, hone wear, and rust spots above the cutting edge.

Add $25 for a Poor Man Strop Kit (Add $3 if shipped to Canada. Add $7 if shipped outside the US and Canada).

Many a straight razor user has started with this.

    With that being said ...

    Welcome to the Den.

+1 on Larry at Whipped Dog. I bought two of his sight unseen razors, and they have been working for me. He is great to work with as well.

I have tried SR shaving, but it is not for me. I was PIF'd a nice vintage SR and bought me a strop, but as it turns out, for me, the learning curve is just too steep.

+1 on whipped dog (the more the merrier)

$53.00 for both a razor & the strop kit is really a great price. That's where I started with a straight.

+1 for whipped dog sight unseen. That's the way I got started. It's a good way to get started without breaking the bank.
