I recently purchased the Semogue 1800, wanted to add a boar brush to my growing collection. I am very pleased with the handle and construction. Took a little time to brek in, but worth it.
The question: has anyone tried the semogue with badger?

Not yet, but would be curious to get your impressions if you do.

I have the 1305, and originally planned on also trying the SOC badger brush. The 1305 broke in so well, and is such a pleasure to use, that trying the badger got put on the back burner.

Love mine too, and that's why I have held off on the SOC badger. I already have a badger that has barely been touched since I picked up the 1305. The knot is a 1/4" of soft luxury sitting on top of 2" of great backbone...

Another 1305 lover here! Just ordered another Semogue (1438) for a travel brush. Personally, I don't see a badger purchase anytime soon. But I'm not ruling one out either.

I have a Semogue 2000. It's dense and luxurious and just a huge knot, but with the kind of nice, short handle I prefer. It's a bit sloppy for face lathering (which is what I do 99% of the time) but fun to pull out every once in a while.

Re: break-in, the tips split within a few weeks, but it was a few months before it would hold a full three passes of lather.

I also just got a Semogue 620, but haven't used it yet.

The SOC is probably your best choice. It's one of the best boar brushes out there IMO.
The 1305 is quite nice, but the handle has a tendency to chip over time, while you'll never have that issue with the SOC.

I have the SOC in Boar and absolutely love it. I do not use anything else.

I wonder if they have fixed this. I saw much ado about the chipping issue when I purchased mine. I have had it over a year and it still looks brand new. I should add that I definitely do "not" baby my shave gear. I toss it in the sink to soak. my wife drops it in the shower and it often winds up in places other than it's stand....

I have a 1305 and have grown to love it. It took forever to break in and I almost gave up on it. I'm glad I stuck with it. Now it is one of my go to brushes. I haven't had any problems with the handle chipping.

I have a 1305, and I absolutely love the shape, colors, and feel of the handle. But as Monk said, the painted handle is prone to chip. I had read that, and thought well I'll be sure to take good care of mine and that won't be a problem. Well, sure enough, I finally dropped it, chipped it, and the chipped area spread. I tried repainting the chipped area with a closely matched color, but it didn't work out too well. They will chip unless you take really good care of them.

That's why I got the unpainted handle 1800 (and it got a tad better backbone)

I have a 2000 and a SOC Boar from Semogue
The 22mm base knot isn't any more in my favourites.

Does 1/2 Badger count? I have a Semogue BC Mistura, which is a mix of Boar/Badger. It's a fantastic brush for bowl or face lathering.

SOC 2 band badger is one of the best brushes, I compare it with my Thater 4125 :)

    I use SOC brushes exclusively.

The limited Edition 2012 (mixed) and 2013 silvertip are my favourites. The 2013 is the softest brush I've ever used (and I've used a few!).

The SOC 2 band and the SOC boar are next in order of preference. The boar is a bit of a lather hog though.

But great brushes all - they've never shed a hair (unlike some top end Simpsons I've owned) !

Semogue 620 left, Semogue 1438 right.jpg Just got a 1438. I only an in a couple of shaves, so it's not broken in yet. Not much scritch, and good backbone. A cool looking little brush. Haven't lost a hair yet, which is surprising.
