Hello guys . I have been shaving with the safety razor for couple months now. Have tried all kinds of things and browsed through here. What are the differences between shave soap and shave cream ? I use Castle Forbes Lime and Castle Forbes lavender. Just wanted to try some different products . What are pros and cons ?

you've set the bar pretty high. that is some nice soap your using.
but there are tons of nice products out there.
you could start in the shave den shop.
you could see what the others are using in the shave of the day threads.
you'll have some hits, and some misses. it's part of the journey.

Welcome to TSD! Shave soaps are hard and some will say more difficult to lather, creams are just that, cream, and very easy to lather.

I use both soaps and creams and as he said, soap can be a bit more difficult to lather but I find it is just a matter of some extra time spent with it. Since I use Proraso and Arko soaps it really isn't a lot more difficult. Both are excellent lathering soaps.

    Hi! Welcome to the Den.
Pros and cons? None, for me anyway. I just prefer the whole ritual of time spent on a puck of soap. But that's me.

Having used all three(you forgot croaps). I've found I prefer Arko in either stick or puck form, I cut up the stick into pieces and then mash the pieces into my storage bowl..
There really is no good or bad with soaps, either a particular soap works for you or it doesn't. Try them all, you have nothing to lose. You may be surprised to find that some of the more inexpensive soaps you try work as well for you as Castle Forbes. Have fun! :)

I bought several samples from the shave den shop, both in creams and soaps. This let me try both as well as several scents for not a lot of money. I prefer soaps, but creams sure are easy. I think part of my preference is because I am cheap and the soaps seem like they are cheaper ($/shave), but I have never actually ran numbers on that, just a feeling I get.

Let us know what you try and how it works for you.

Welcome to the Den. It's worth experimenting with all types of soaps. Each has its own characteristics regarding lathering, H2O needs, cushion, etc. I have all three types in my den and I have favorite hard pucks and creams. The discovery is half the enjoyment.

As a form, I haven't found a real advantage to one over the other as far as actual shave performance. I seem to have more croaps and creams than anything else

You should acquire several of both right now, and make it your goal to eventually own one of every soap and cream in production. Start your house renovations now, so that you will have room to receive it as your collection grows....

I used to be a mainly cream user, but now I use more soaps. I still enjoy creams a lot. I find certain soaps as easy to lather as many creams.

Welcome to TSD. I use and enjoy both creams and soaps. For me in the beginning it was easier to lather creams allowing me to concentrate on my shaving technique. As I progressed, I have no trouble lathering soaps as well to the point that I now have more soaps than creams. I do always have a least one cream on hand.

I seem to like creams better because I feel like I can get a better lather from it, but both of them seem to work fine
